About

Welcome to COVIDISM, a digital initiative tracking and examining COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on higher education and international student mobility. This initiative started as a resource hub for international news, op-eds, and commentaries on the topic, hosted on my personal website, as a way to follow developments surrounding trends and practices around student mobility and higher education in the time of a pandemic (Jan 2020 – Jan 2021). The compilation has since grown and hence this dedicated space. I hope this website will be useful to academic researchers, practitioners, and anyone interested in how the current and future world of international student mobility and higher education is being shaped by a global crisis.

COVIDISM is founded and edited by Cheng Yi’En, Research Fellow in the Asian Migration Cluster at ARI, NUS. His research interests lie in the intersection across education, youth, and mobilities in Asian cities, with a current focus on how higher education restructuring is changing young people’s aspirations and identities and their relationships to mobility and immobility. For more information about Yi’En’s works, please visit his personal website.

COVIDISM is hosted by the Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). The views expressed in news, op-eds, and commentaries at COVIDISM are contributors’ personal opinions, and not representative of the views of ARI or NUS.
