About

Margarethe is an artist living and working in Denmark.

She is exploring experience-based art through a variety of materials.

Educated in Visual Arts at Emerson College, UK

Margarethe Kölmel works with multiple media (sculpture, sound, installation, painting, photography), combining them uniquely according to the subject; dealing with how processes can be made experiential and connections made visible.

“I want everybody to sense and become more aware of what’s inherent in their existence,” she says about her sound installation Tides from 2018. “There are deep undercurrents in us that we need to experience in order to not feel lost”.

There lies a strong sense of the importance of connection to nature and other humans in her work. On this artistic ground, she believes that environmental issues can be conveyed in a very different and effective way by making art the communicator.

After 15 years of working as a medical doctor with a special interest in neuroscience, artistically self-taught, in 2015 she enrolled in the Visual Arts course at Emerson College, UK. As a natural consequence of the insight she has gained in this course, it has become her goal to find a way to make knowledge available in an experiential way and work with the more profound parts of human consciousness
