About Me

Shailyn Drukis

I am a young professional and outdoor adventurer living in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. In my early 20s I had the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Jane Goodall which lead to me spending a number of years as a strong advocate for biodiversity protection, youth engagement, and inter-generational dialogues in conservation decision-making processes. I am the Co-founder the Global Youth Biodiversity Network and completed a six-year term on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Committee for IUCN.

I am passionate about contributing back to the northern and western mountainous regions that surround me through working with fish and wildlife, advocating for responsible recreation on the land, promoting bear respect and safety, and through sharing my appreciation of our wild spaces through stories and posts on my social media. I am an avid geocacher and outdoor gear junkie, and spend every opportunity I can hiking, trail running, and backcountry camping in the mountains. I am also the Yukon chapter coordinator of The LA (Lady Alliance), which is a Canadian Not for Profit that aims to build women’s confidence in the outdoors through building community and from adventure.

My research and professional interests include protected areas, wildlife and natural resources planning, landscape connectivity and citizen/community-based monitoring.
