Professional History

I started off my career as a developer for a little mini-computer – IBM Series 34. Then I spent quite some times with machines from Burroughs, ICL, HP and database software like Foxpro, Dbase, IDMSX, Ingres, Informix and Oracle. After so many years, my favorite software topics are still data structure and programming. Since 1994, I focused myself in Internet, e-Government, e-Business, web applications development, web traffic analysis, usability, Public Key Infrastructure, IT governance and my own mini web projects.

I also spent quite some money in “personal computers” from Commodore 64, Apple II compatibles, PC compatibles, and various laptop computers such as IBM, Toshiba, Fujitsu, HP, Sony and Apple.

Photography History

My first camera is a Contax 139 Quartz SLR, a gift from my dad back in 1979 (it is still one of the most beautifully made cameras in the world). Through out all these years, I’ve used many other film / digital cameras from Pentax, Canon, Casio, Ricoh, Minolta and Olympus. My first DSLR was Olympus E-1 and I am still keeping the E-1, E-300, E-5 from the same manufacturer. I also use my Olympus E-P1, E-P3, E-M5, E-M1, XZ-1, Pen-F, Leica Q, Lomo Fisheye, and Richo GR-1 a lot when a DSLR is not needed. My current favorite cameras now yes, Olympus Pen-F and OMD EM1 Mark III.

Site History

I got my first Internet email account in year 1995, which was a big change to me as I was a Compuserve user back then. I started to develop / design my own website and the first homepage developed was like that :

Year 1995, version 1:

Then it was a non stop revision of the homepage designs, see below for the 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 version.

Year 1998, a change to focus in photography – and I started to use MichaelYung.com as the domain:

Fast forward to year 2002, two major changes:

  • I decided to move the “homepage” to a weblog engine, first the Blogger then Plog / Lifetype and now WordPress.
  • I registered the great domain name 80days.com. First it’s redirected to my personal site michaelyung.com, but then I set it up with PostNuke CMS, and then DocuWiki as a test bed of various Internet tools such as Amazon Store.

Following is a list of the michaelyung.com in “blog mode”:

Then, in 2012, went back to use WordPress’ standard Twenty Twelve theme, and eventually moved to WordPress.com hosting in 2016:
