Can you believe we are already on the countdown to 2020?! I think we can all agree that this year has definitely flown by! Bearing that in mind I thought it would be necessary to highlight the news discussed in the recent LOC meeting and the new activity in our area.
UHCW Eye Casualty
We hope you enjoyed the Optometry Engagement meeting on the 19th of November regarding the changes to admittance at UHCW eye casualty department. For those that couldn’t make it, I have attached a copy of the power-point presentation to this email. The meeting was to discuss how eye casualty will be using a telephone/e-referral triage and appointment-based system from around January 2020. This change has been introduced to help cope with the increasing demand, allowing for waiting times to be reduced and appointments saved for emergencies. CHEC
As you already know, South Warwickshire CCG has commissioned a new community ophthalmology service called CHEC which was licensed from the 1st of September 2019 to handle our routine ophthalmology referrals. As a reminder, this means a patient with a South Warwickshire GP should be referred to this triage service via an online portal delivered by CHEC or via Checsouth.warwickshire@nhs.net. This applies to ALL referrals apart from same day emergency and 2 weekly. By now you hopefully will have received a letter from South Warwickshire CCG explaining this, however if you do have any queries please contact the Engagement Officer Javed Hussain (CHEC) on javed.hussain@communityeyecare.org.uk or 01772717167.
Watch this Space
The LOC are currently planning a CET based event for around February 2020 where we will be inviting everyone from the Coventry and Warwickshire area. Currently, it will be geared around focussing on further training and how we can come together to be ready for new schemes in the area. Please watch this space as more information will be provided in due course!
