Byggemenskap – cooperative housing

Marjetica Potrč:

….Sweden is one of few counties that does not
support social housing, Göteborg: lack of subsidized housing.
Currently there are several initiatives (cooperative housing)
that negotiate with municipality – the city gives a building and
residents are responsible for everything else.  This is a new
form of low-income housing, which is born from the lack of state
support. The value of The Common Roof project is to focus on
Self-Construction. Right now, residents only negotiate, but they
do not construct themselves.

Edi Muka:

….That is correct, but we just came across a new initiative
which is about building together – very interesting:

Marjetica Potrč:

…. So the big differenece is that now it’s about
self-construction!

Edi Muka:

…. a new initiative which is about building together
– very interesting.  Established initially in Stockholm, they
are starting the above initiative also in Goteborg now (check
that link. It’s in Swedish but you can google translate it. And
if you look at the FAQ the questions are very similar to the
ones we are posing in our project.)
