Project inspections and ensuring proper delivery of those projects are intense tasks that require a large amount of resources. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) needed to adapt its methods to fit with the times. The department embarked on a pilot study to test a new field software called HeadLight, recruiting 170 people in field operations to track 50 projects using the program to test its effectiveness. Workers in the field saw an increase in their productivity, transcription errors were eliminated, and that the software aided in training and onboarding for new staff by saving field information in real time – saving the DOTD time and taxpayer dollars.
