Practical matters: Choosing a glass

Seeing, or in this case, tasting is believing. Sample a wine out of the following drinking vessels:

  • a china teacup,
  • a pottery mug,
  • a pewter tankard,
  • a silver goblet,
  • a plastic cup, and
  • a paper cup.

How do these vessels affect the wine’s flavor? Don’t forget to take into account how each of these vessels affect the esthetic pleasures in regard to weight and feel in the hand as well as on the lip. Now try the same wine in a quality glass as described in the lesson. Which vessel enhances your wine experience the most?
