May 28 – June 29: Mary McCann, Lisa Joyce, Henry Kelemen and CJ Wilson Set for Atlantic Theater Company’s U.S. Premiere of OUR NEW GIRL

Atlantic Theater Company (Neil Pepe, Artistic Director; Jeffory Lawson, Managing Director) is presenting the US premiere of Nancy Harris’ play OUR NEW GIRL, directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch. Lisa Joyce, Henry Kelemen and CJ Wilson will join previously-announced Atlantic Theater Company founding member Mary McCann for this limited run, which began previews Wednesday, May 28 and will open Tuesday, June 10 for a limited engagement through Sunday, June 29, 2014 off-Broadway at Atlantic Stage 2 (330 West 16th Street) in New York. Behind the shiny door of Hazel Robinson’s perfect London home, nothing is as it seems. Hazel’s husband Richard, a plastic surgeon, has embarked on his latest charitable quest in Haiti, leaving the heavily-pregnant Hazel with a failing business and a problem son. When a professional nanny arrives unannounced on the Robinsons’ doorstep, Hazel finds her home under the shadow of a perfect stranger with an agenda of her own. In OUR NEW GIRL, up-and-coming Irish playwright Nancy Harris presents a psychological drama about the darker side of modern parenthood.

Lisa Joyce has recently been seen off-Broadway in Signature Theatre Company’s The Mound Builders and as a recurring character on “The Following” and HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.” Ten year-old Henry Kelemen makes his stage debut in OUR NEW GIRL, following roles in the films What Maisie Knew and Mr. Poppers Penguins. After recently appearing on Broadway in Bronx Bombers, CJ Wilson returns to Atlantic Theater Company, where he was seen in The Voysey Inheritance and Ethan Coen’s Offices.

OUR NEW GIRL features scenic design by Timothy R. Mackabee, costume design by Sarah J. Holden, lighting design by David Weiner, and sound design by Stowe Nelson.

During its history, Atlantic has garnered twelve Tony Awards®, eleven Lucille Lortel Awards, fifteen Obie Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards, five Outer Critics Circle Awards, and three Drama League Awards.  Atlantic also operates The Atlantic Theater Company Acting School, which has an undergraduate program in conjunction with NYU, as well as a two-year professional acting program and a six-week intensive workshop every summer. Atlantic partners with schools and teachers throughout the greater metropolitan area coordinating in-school visits of teaching artists and post-theater talkbacks.

Producing great plays is only half of Atlantic’s mission. The ATLANTIC ACTING SCHOOL, founded in 1983, operates as both a private conservatory and an undergraduate program in conjunction with New York University. The school focuses on the Practical Aesthetics acting technique, which grew out of a series of NYU summer workshops in Vermont with playwright David Mamet and actor William H. Macy.

The ATLANTIC ACTING SCHOOL fosters new generations of theater artists and audiences by creating a student ensemble that allows emerging actors to hone their craft in a safe yet challenging environment. This year the school reached an enrollment of 440 students representing a large cross-section of social, economic and ethnic backgrounds. Distinguished guest lecturers include Sam Shepard, Margo Jefferson, Gore Vidal, Mary Steenburgen, Nicky Silver, Ted Danson and program graduates Kristen Johnston, Camryn Manheim and Eddie Cahill. Atlantic is committed to preparing its students for all aspects of a performing arts career.

Lia Chang

Lia Chang is an actor, a performance and fine art botanical photographer, and an award-winning multi-platform journalist. Lia recently starred as Carole Barbara in Lorey Hayes’ Power Play at the 2013 National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, N.C., with Pauletta Pearson Washington, Roscoe Orman, Lorey Hayes, Marcus Naylor and Phynjuar, and made her jazz vocalist debut in Rome Neal’s Banana Puddin’ Jazz “LADY” at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York.  She is profiled in Jade Magazine.
