Front Row at NYFW Spring 2014: Part 1

EpYxdO9
The starlets are strutting down the street, sitting front row at the shows, and partying their rich little asses off. It’s New York fucking Fashion Week, dear readers.

Is there a better way to kick off New York Fashion Week than with a studded crop top and killer lady-pants? I think not, dear readers, and Nicole Richie knows it. The hair and makeup look better than ever, and even my distaste for giant-toed platforms can’t stop me from loving those double-strap pumps.

Anna and Michael are in their usual, never-changing uniforms; Hilary actually looks fantastic in Kors’s aqua leopard print dress. Simple accessories kept the look clean and chic in spite of its crazy print.

What a pose, Mrs. Draper! I can’t even describe how much I love the button detailing on this little black dress. The red lips, black nails, and textured pumps were all sexy, modern additions to an already fabulous look.

Another stunning little black dress, with just enough detailing to keep it from being boring. Though I’m not sure those shoes work on anyone but a model, because unless your legs alone are five feet tall, I think those super-pointy pumps will look like mini-skis.

I don’t particularly like this top and skirt, but that’s because I don’t particularly like Michael Kors’s designs. But since she’s obligated to wear his label to his event, I’ll forgive that, because the belt and shoes were lovely additions. The gold earrings and natural-looking makeup are also beautiful.

I have to admit, the pictures from this event definitely made me want to purchase some 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target pieces of my own. The sweatshirt is a little hipster for me personally, but I love the look on Jessica, and I’d wear those pants in a heartbeat.

ASHLEY MADEKWE

This is a so-wrong-it’s-right kind of look for me. The Johnny Depp-as-Willy Wonka glasses are sort of brilliant with her little pink jacket and mauve dress, and those royal blue pumps are just random enough to be inspired instead of unreasonable.

Pardon my Yiddish, but I am a little bit in love with that ungapatchked jacket. And if I had Jaime Chung’s stomach, I’d be rocking that crop top and high-waisted skirt combo as we speak. (Though my skirt would be slightly less denim-looking.)

ZACHARY QUINTO at the Richard Chai show

Isn’t he just delicious? He kind of crept up on me, but I’ve slowly realized he’s probably the best dressed man in Hollywood. Don’t worry, I’ll prove it during March Fabness.

She could have put just a little more effort in, but the dress is obviously phenomenal on her.

This only looks great because she’s a model. It’s pretty dull, and that purse is stupidly huge.

KATE UPTON at the Style Awards
dress by Altuzarra, purse and shoes by Jimmy Choo

I wasn’t sure if my eyes were deceiving me, but I checked in other photos, and those shoes ARE sort of a metallic burgundy instead of black. Which I absolutely adore, particularly with a black dress. I just think it’s a really interesting combination, especially coming from Kate Upton, who I tend to find anything but interesting on the red carpet.

NINA GARCIA at the Couture Council Awards
dress by Alexander McQueen, purse by Nancy Gonzalez, shoes by Azzedine Alaïa

I don’t really love the boxiness of this dress on Nina, but the color is awesome and she wears it fabulously. Plus, she refused to wear Michael Kors to his own event, which I find hilariously divalicious.

MARIA SHARAPOVA at the Style Awards

That skirt looks way too much line an apron, and the color of those shoes just makes me depressed.

HEIDI KLUM at the BCBG Max Azria show

I’m not really a fan of these leather leggings, and particularly not with black pumps, but this vest-tunic situation is kind of cool.

OLIVIA PALERMO at the BCBG Max Azria show
dress by BCBG Max Azria, sunglasses by Ray-Ban, necklace by Lulu Frost, purse by Gerard Darel, shoes by Aquazzura

Photo: Amanda Schwab/Starktraks

Always, ALWAYS wearing at least two too many accessories. I can’t even fathom how many times I’ve told Olivia to obey Coco Chanel’s golden rule of taking off one accessory before you leave the house, but she refuses to listen to my eternal wisdom.

DOUTZEN KROES at the Couture Council Awards
dress by Michael Kors, shoes by Céline

I find the print of this dress very dated, and I don’t think the silhouette is particularly flattering, even though Doutzen’s body is out of this world. I think it’s a proportion issue with the shoes, which don’t work with this look at all.

ALYSSA MILANO at the Tadashi Shoji show

Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty

Not loving the fit of this dress on her at all. It’s also kind of fussy – I know I hate starlets who don’t try hard enough, but trying too hard is almost as bad.

BELLA THORNE at the Tadashi Shoji show

The hair and makeup are just a little much for this look, and I just don’t understand those shoes.

CHRISTINA RICCI at the Richard Chai show

Photo: Stephen Lovekin/Getty

It’s not that there’s anything particularly wrong with this, it’s just that Christina Ricci can do a lot better. But at least she’s refusing to let the Summer of the White Pump end. Stay strong, Christina.
