Rick Lovett on WFMF “Hot 102” Baton Rouge

Corrections are a good thing… and thanks to Robyn Watts for letting me know that I got my tapes listed out of order… (sheesh, I gotta get better organized). This short ‘demo’ is, of course Robyn’s contribution to the cause. Its really excellent and our first look at WFMF from the 80s.

Don’t know where Rick is today, but I’m sure this tape would get him a gig just about anywhere – especially since the average talent heard on the radio these days is much inferior to Rick’s demo.

  1. Hey Steve,

I believe that was one of mine that I’ve sent it. This was given to me by a former co-worker of mine when I was working at WSCQ/Columbia. It was given to him back in 1992 by a former PD who wanted to convert WSCQ from Light AC to a Hot AC/CHR format and was using this aircheck to prep the staff on how the station should sound like. Unfortunately, the plans were shot down by the station’s owners and the station went Adult Standards which proved to be a wise decision as the station’s ratings increased throughout the rest of the 90’s.

Anyway, judging from the music, this aircheck has to be from around late 1991 or early 1992.

  2. You know, it’s distinctly possible. If so my apologies. Henry did indeed give me a box which included some demo tapes, some junk, and some material of him on FM 100 here in Memphis. Since I recently moved and some of the tapes ended up in different boxes, it’s possible I mixed up a few of yours in with others.

I’ll make the changes. Thanks for the update.

Based on the announcement of the LSU-Auburn results, the exact date of this aircheck is January 9, 1992.
