Good Morning and {WELCOME BACK} to another beautiful crafting day!  Today we bring you another simple and fun project… a Matchbox Cover with a {FREE CUT FILE}!  This is my first experiment with creating a cut file, so I’m very excited to share it with you!

Matchbox Header

If you were to walk into my home, 99% of the time there would be a candle burning.  My husband and I both love candles.  We love the warm glow.  We love the fresh scent.  We love everything about them. So when I spotted some matchbox covers on Pinterest, they immediately caught my attention.  As I browse through the pictures I’m thinking… what if there was an opening on the side to expose the area where you strike the match?… what if it had a loop to tie it around a candle to give as a sweet little gift?… what if I created my own cut file?…  Wait a minute!  Create my own cut file?  Me?  By myself?  ………………And so I did.  My very first ever Silhouette Studio cut file!

I know it’s not rocket science, many crafters create better cut files than I.  There is nothing too complicated about it.  There were no special skills or talent involved.  But hey, that’s okay.  I DID IT and I’m going to have a mini-celebration to enjoy my conquest!  So… back to my project!

matchbox-cover-with-hanger4matchbox-cover-with-hanger

I gave the red one to my husband for Valentine’s Day.  As I stood there beaming, I’m certain he had no idea how special this little gift was {LOL}!

So here it is… THE LINK… my awesome free cut file… HERE: {Matchbox Cover Cut File} EEK!

I included the design I put on my box, just in case you want to do a {PRINT & CUT}, but feel free to decorate yours any way you want.  Once you cut out the matchbox cover, fold on the perforated lines and wrap around the match box.  You can use glue or double sided tape to secure it.  Just pop out the hanger and fold it upward to attach your twine or ribbon.

If you think I’m excited about my project, just wait until you see all the awesomeness brought to you by our monthly Silhouette Challenge Group Post!

cute idea! thanks for sharing the file. I almost included a cut file in my post (#4)… but I chickened out. it seemed intimidating! maybe next time! lol

Thanks Stephanie! I’m extremely challenged but I signed up for dropbox.com and discovered how simple it is. My next task is to figure out how to turn it into a svg file. Not so easy…lol.

Interesting. I made several cut files before I even fired up my Cameo for the first time… somehow the computer was less intimidating than the machine! I’m glad you made one, cuz those matchbook cover are such a cute idea!

Thanks Laura! I hope it’s the first of many because I had so much fun doing it.

How adorable is this? Very creative, and I love that you looked at ideas and improved on it…then went out and made it yourself! Kudos to you! Ooh, and when you figure out how to save it as an svg, post to the group! TFS.

The matchbox covers are such a clever idea!!! It’s one of those, “Why didn’t I think of that?” projects! I always decorate candle jars before I give them as gifts, now my gifts will have an extra special touch thanks to you sharing the file so generously! I’m new to the Silhouette world and I’m so glad that I’m a part of this amazing Silhouette Challenge group!

Grats on your first cutfile. I just got the Silhouette Cameo after having the original silhouette for many years. I love it and use it all the time! Most recently with my Disney Album on my blog. The monthly challenge looks very interesting. How did you find a group to hang out and do challenges with?

    • mypapercraze March 12, 2014 at 6:12 am Reply

Thanks Rachel! I actually won my Silhouette Portrait in a contest a year ago and didn’t even know what a cut file was. lol I was lucky to stumble on a blog called The Thinking Closet by Lauren Lanker and saw she had a facebook group so I asked to join. Everyone is welcome and the whole group is centered around Silhouette. Everyone is so helpful and supportive. Once in a while blogging ideas and comments come up. The challenge is monthly and each month has a different theme. It’s a lot of fun and challenges me to branch out. If you would like to join, here’s the link. I hope you do. http://www.thinkingcloset.com/the-silhouette-challenge-facebook-group-new-members-welcome/

    Glenna,
Your love for candles has sparked your creativity. Nice work making a lovely gift. I know I despise looking for a match, when a candle awaits my assistance, to scent the room and create a soft glow.
