All hail – here’s the holder of the Guinness world record for the longest time a shoe has been banished to Fashion Siberia

Here’s living proof that it you wait long enough just about everything comes back en vogue.  As these particular ‘beauties’ seem to have been inspired by a 16th century shoe first worn in Venice called a Chopine. So they’ve  only been out for, say, about 400 years.

For those of you of a historical bent, Chopines were worn by the wealthy and fashionable ladies of that era who wanted to avoid getting their feet grubbied by the less than pristine Venetian Streets.

The highest pair that we know about was over 2 feet high. So not quite lofty enough to allow you to cross a canal without getting your feet wet. But certainly of sufficient magnitude to require a couple of handmaidens to accompany your every step to ensure you don’t go A over T………
