THE former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Dayo Adeyeye said that the party has the chance of winning Ekiti State Governorship election, if it could conduct credible and transparent primary.

Adeyeye expressed the optimism in an interview with newsmen, shortly after he submitted his nomination form for the election at the party’ national secretariat on Thursday in Abuja.

He said that with credible primary and team work, PDP could retain the governorship seat, in the July 14 governorship election.

“If we do free and fair primary and everybody comes together accepts the outcome we have a chance to win the state governorship election.

“But if we miss the chance, if we allow impunity and imposition, if we cooperate with those who are making effort to install their stooge at all cost, then we cannot guarantee the chance of winning Adeyeye said.

He, expressed the need to follow the party’s guideline and constitution in conducting its primary in the state.

Adeyeye, who was a former Minister of Work, disclosed that the state chapter of PDP was presently gripped with fear following an open endorsement of one of the aspirants by Gov. Ayodele Fayose.

He said that while there was nothing wrong in a governor supporting a particular aspirant, what was bad was the coercing of party members to endorse  the  so called anointed candidate.

He also condemned the use of the state apparatus for the governor’s endorsed candidate to the detriment of others.

“In fact the atmosphere of fear has been created in Ekiti as we speak now. So many party members are afraid of associating with other party members apart from the one anointed by the governor.

“But, we are not borthered about this because we believe that by the grace of God we are going to win.

“ What we are asking the party to do is to conduct free and fair primaries that will ensure the secrecy of each delegate and there must be total security for everybody that will participate in the election.’’

Adeyeye said he was for free and fair primary not undue advantage. “Even if I ask, I know that I will not be granted.

“There are people who have power to ask for undue advantage, but we are saying it should not be granted   to them’’

He expressed confidence that the party’s National Working committee would do the needful by conducting credible primary in the state.

Asked if he would accept defeat if he did not win the primary, Adeyeye said as long as it was free, fair, credible, and the aspirants geniune complaints were addressed fairly and justly.

The PDP National Organising Secretary of PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu, earlier receiving the nomination form, urged Adeyeye and his supporter to follow the party’s guidelines and play by the rule.

Akobundu promised that the primary would be free, fair and credible.
