Brother

Is family all about genealogy
Bonds only formed in biology
Must all those on my family tree
Have the same last name as me

Or can a member be discovered
To whom we feel we are brother
Birthed by a different Mother
Can a bond be there uncovered

Though we all share some DNA
Family defined by what papers say
It is our hearts that find a way
To add to our family every day
~~~
And I am the luckiest, it is true
Though our family be but a few
I am thankful that my tree grew
A branch with a brother just like you
