ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Simon Goldstein connected with 17 minutes and change remaining in the first half to level the match, and Greece Arcadia and Pittsford Mendon went to play to a 1-1 draw.
Matias Bolanos slipped a pass through a pair of Arcadia defenders, and Goldstein used three touches before slotting opposite for the equalizer.
“They showed some resilience,” Mendon head coach Mark Hurley said of his squad’s ability to rally on the road. “They showed that they got some toughness and there’s not any quit in them. They were fighting right to the end. Those are the bigger things that I was proud of. No one likes a tie, but I’m proud of what I saw. There’s no quit in them.”

Playing a program-first game under the lights, Arcadia opened the match with a burst. Center back Lorenzo Ramos-Chavez made an overlapping rush along the right side, received a pass from Anthony DiMaggio and finished opposite side netting for the 1-nil lead less than eight minutes into the match.

“In pre-game we talked about trying to jump on them quickly,” Arcadia head coach Matt Vergamini noted. “We’ve been really trying to stress speed of play and to go forward quickly when you have it. It’s something we’ve been working on the last week and a half. It showed in that first 15 minutes. It slowed down a little bit after that, and the game kinda became a little more even.”
Junior attacker Anthony DiMaggio nearly added to the lead two minutes later for the Titans.
Arcadia created chances with a series of corner kicks – one late in the first half and then two in the opening moments of the second.
“I think the tie was fair,” Vergamini said. “That was probably the right outcome because both teams had chances.

“I was proud of our younger guys. We weren’t sure how they were going to step in and play at the varsity level, a more physical level. I thought some younger guys really stepped up and showed some good stuff tonight.”

“I’m really not too sure what we are yet. There is a good amount of depth and a good amount of guys fighting for jobs. It’s a good competitive team. I love what I saw just as far as camaraderie and caring for each other. The bench was loud the whole game and in it for each other. They’re a really fun team to coach. We got a lot of work to do, but we’ve got a lot of potential as well.”
Arcadia’s Gabe Taylor made four saves. Mendon’s Ben Shulman stopped six shots.
