WBC orders Kingry vs. Luke Campbell

Promoter Eddie Hearn has announced that with Javier Fortuna pulling out of the WBC-mandated Luke Campbell fight, the WBC has notified Matchroom that WBC #2 Campbell must now face WBC #3 Ryan “Kingry” Garcia. Kingry was ecstatic about the fight, which is for the WBC interim lightweight belt. “I’m finally getting to fight a southpaw, my favorite fighters to fight! Bring it on Luke Campbell,” he tweeted. Cambell tweeted, “Let’s go!” The WBC has confirmed it. No response yet from Kingry’s promoter Golden Boy. If no deal is reached between Golden Boy and Matchroom, a purse bid would be ordered.

  • Great match up. Campbell knows how to fight, will find out if Kingry can back up all the hype he’s getting.

    • Biden is going to get smoked by Trump, and Campbell is going to get smoked by Ryan Garcia.

  • Campbell better lose the habit of his occasional pawing with his jab once he faces Kingry. Campbell needs to snap the jab to keep Kingry at the end of his punches. Kingry’s counter around that jab may have a detrimental effect on Campbell’s ability to take a punch. Campbell better use his reach and move at angles to keep Kingry honest. I am giving the edge to Kingry based on his snappy power using his counters.

  • Ryan Garcia rejects fight after hearing he’s only getting $250,000 for the fight…

  • Of all the options to get atitle (a bogus interim, but a title anyway), a fight against Campbell is the most winnable. Is not the same to have Haney, Lomachenko or even Gervonta in the opposite corner, than Campbell instead. I find no reasons to say no to this fight from Garcia, even if the money is not there for this occasion.

  • Campbell is a tougher fight for Garcia than Linares. Not sure where they’ll fight but if it’s held in the UK it’s a 50:50 fight.

  • I expect Garcia to win this, but it is a great fight. Campbell showed he deserves respect against Linares and Loma. I personally thought he could have been given decision against Linares, but hey ho. Campbell is from same town as me so hope he can do it!

    • I think Garcia can definitely win, but it is a bit high risk low reward. I agree , it is a strange fight for them to take at this stage of his career

  • So far Campbell has like 9 lives. Keeps getting the most opportunities. I don’t know too many that get the chance to get right back in the mix after losing and not even being a big name. Went 12 with Loma. Big deal. Loma the not a big a stud at 135. Great boxer Loma is, but Loma isn’t big P4p guy the way they make him out. His handlers say he’s capped at 135. Came from 126. Big deal. Lost to Salido who Garcia dispatched. Campbell overrated to say the least.

  • Uh-oh. Poser boy now has to fight somebody his same size who has more skill than he does. Let’s see if Oscar lets his little poodle off his leash to fight one of the big boys at 135. I’ve got the Brit winning comfortably but getting f***** on the scorecards. That’s if the fight even happens.
