More woes for Showtime

Friday was a bad day for Showtime. Not only did the main event get canceled for tonight’s Showtime telecast, word came that the main event for Showtime’s next telecast has had a fighter drop out.

Super welterweight Terrell Gausha (21-1-1, 10 KOs) has pulled out his October 26 Showtime main event against Erickson “Hammer” Lubin (21-1, 16 KOs) due to an injury. WBC #2 rated Lubin announced on social media that he is now fighting Nathaniel Gallimore (21-3-1, 17 KOs). Lubin-Gausha was to be a twelve round WBC title eliminator. Gallimore is currently unrated.

  • In the forty’s fighters would have dove in and saved both main event spots. Today, all this strength and conditioning have left fighters mostly devoid of the science of boxing. This spoiled brat generation, by and large have ignored searching to incorporate said science which are the ‘no how’ to make adaptable in-ring changes that allows one to compete on a dime. • In the 40’s… when fighters got their asses kicked in 10 rounders for $175… the good old days

    • So, you want fighters to “dive in” and save the card, huh? So, lemme ask you, what you think about the GGG-Derevyanchenko decision? Did you protest the terrible decision? I didn’t see any posts on that topic from you… If you’re like most fans of the sport, you couldn’t care less that Sergey got robbed. But if Sergey hadn’t showed up or had half-a$$ed it and quit, I bet you’d have a problem with that too.

  • I miss the old days of HBO and Showtime having all the fights in a more organized fashion. In current times, who knows what website, network, or social media engines fights will be on and all the hidden fees attached by some. HBO and Showtime took time to promote fights and showcase excellent commentaries about fights leaving the view a sense of pride for watching any event. Nope, not today…….

    • Me too ScoobyDoo! I tried watching the Golden Contract Fights on ESPN+ yesterday and it was awful. And last week the undercard fights for Dubois were all complete mismatches.

I broke down and got ESPN+ for the Loma vs Campbell fight, but I’m thinking I’ll cancel.

      • I’ve have pretty good luck with DAZN. A lot more boxing than I would have expected (some unknown stuff I would have never heard of). I paid the flat fee last year ($90) and I’ve gotten more than my money’s worth. The also broadcast everything on the card as well as the Bellator stuff. I just wake up Sunday morning and plug into 6 hours of fights. Done with late night PPV bullshit .

      • Scott, I am serious boxing fan, but ESPN’s cash grab aka ESPN+ was too much to swallow. Pay extra money to watch Tyson Fury setups? I think not.

  • Showtime more than likely will follow HBO and get out of boxing soon. You can see the writing on the wall.

    • I agree, David. All of the signs are there. TV and Sreaming services could have tremendous power. If they wanted to help clean up boxing they could. The first step would be to join together and refuse to televise any bout that has a sanctioning body title involved. That would end the money trail for the sanctioning body parasites. It is time for boxing to grow up.

  • Gallimore is a legit talent. He is an excellent choice for a substitute.

  • Austin Trout… that is the perfect choice. Strong, durable and will seriously test Lubin. Although he is older, hes only lost to world champions..

  • Nathaniel Gallimore may be a better fight. He probably hits harder than Terrell!
