“People are not strays.” Chel argued. “They belong to no one.” The alien girl’s replies were devoid of any emotion and it made Chel nervous. This girl was defeated. She had given up. What are they going to do with me? Chel went quietly into her thoughts. They’re using me to get to Lexx, I know, but is he going to come for me? What if nobody comes? Am I going to become one of their ‘strays’? Lexx could come after her and she reasoned, he likely would, but at what cost? He needed to be concentrating on his game, not rescuing her. Unfortunately, Chel could not see any way that she could rescue herself without some help. Even if she were able to get free, where would she go? How would she get off the ship? How would she get home? “Stop looking so worried. You’re obviously important …” The sairah girl’s words still lacked emotion, but she was trying to make Chel more at ease as she worked on tying what was left of Chel’s long hair into a tight ribbon. “I’ve never seen anyone come in here without a broken bone after pick up.” Her words did little to calm Chel’s anxieties.
