In this case, Chinese rules would have required the plane to sit on the ground for an extended period of time, which would have caused a domino effect for the plane and crew which would have affected numerous other flights.

A giant acorn, a big potato, bologna: Cities get creative with their New Year’s Eve ‘drops’. – While most of us are familiar with the New Year’s Eve drop in Times Square, other cities have their own quirky version of this year-end celebration.
