FORT MYERS, Fla.- A southwest Florida man is unveiling his unique way of using paint to create art. Steve Pennisi had searched for years for a technique that truly inspired him, and that created unusual, if not one of a kind, works. “I moved to this area about three years ago, from Maine, where I had owned an advertising agency, and where I had worked on my painting,” said Pennisi. “In Fort Myers one day, I mixed together to paint, and then turned it over, and later lifted up the material. The back side was like nothing I have ever seen, just beautiful. It had parts that hint at Jackson Pollock, and the half-tones were much like Ansel Adams. It was magic.” Pennisi perfected the style of painting, called using both sides of the paint. That’s the title of his exhibit at the Sydney and Berne Davis Art Center. The show opens the evening of January 1, to coincide with ArtWalk. Pennisi’s style is gaining critical acclaim, after shows in Los Angeles and Boca Raton. “This gives me renewed energy and a real reason to keep pursuing my art. The paint just keeps giving, and in the designs, I can see parts of my sub-conscious. I am very fortunate to have found this technique, it’s wonderful,” said Pennisi.
