Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year, and those driving to see friends and family for this year’s holiday may have something to be a little extra thankful for, as gas prices in Florida have dropped. According to AAA, gas prices have dropped 10 cents since last week, and they are expected to drop throughout the holiday weekend. AAA says 2.9 million Floridians are expected to travel this Thanskgiving and 2.3 million are expected to get in their cars and drive to see friends and family. Even though prices have been dropping, they are still 10 cents higher per gallon than what Thanksgiving travelers saw at the pump in 2021. The last time gas prices were this high was back in 2013. “When gas prices are more expensive, people offset that added cost by spending a little less on their hotel or shopping and dining out,” said Mark Jenkins, AAA spokesman. “This could be the most expensive Thanksgiving at the pump in history.” People fill up their cars at a Southwest Florida gas station, Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
