Floats from local businesses, churches, schools, community groups, and leaders drove through the streets of Dunbar. The Dunbar 80th annual Easter Parade was held on Sunday, March 31. The parade began at 3 p.m. at the 4-way intersection of Ford Street and MLK Boulevard. The Dunbar Easter parade has a rich history, starting in 1945 when Dunbar was a predominantly Black community. Over the decades, the parade has become a tradition for families who live and work along the parade route to come out and watch. “They throw money and candy,” said one parade goer, “And you’re gonna see a lot of children’s like running up and fighting for it.” “My favorite part is I can enjoy myself and everything else. ” said another. Organizers advised attendees to get there an hour or hour and a half early to secure a spot. Credit: WINK News While the parade may be over now, the Easter celebrations continued into the evening.
