The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has accredited more programmes at Victoria University, further strengthening the institution’s capacity to offer quality, all-round higher education.
The new programmes are; Bachelor of Science with Education, Masters of Arts in Mass Communication, Bachelor of Pharmacy, Diploma in Hotel Management and Culinary Art, Bachelor of Commercial Arts and Industrial Design and Master of Science in Block Chain and Financial Technologies
Professor Mary Okwakol, the Executive Director of NCHE, communicated the decision to the Victoria University leadership in a letter dated April 19.
“I wish to remind you that under section 119(A) of the Universities and Other Institutions Act 2001 as amended, you shall not run any academic programmes that have not been accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
“Please urge your staff members to implement these programmes in accordance with the regulations of NCI-1E. Officers of the NCHE shall review the implementation during their periodic administrative and monitoring visits to your institution. I also wish to draw your attention to Statutory Instrument No. 17 or 2010 which requires ever, student to contribute Shs. 20.000 (Twenty Thousand shillings only) per year to the National Council for Higher Education,” she wrote.
This comes after NCHE in March 2024 accredited Victoria University to offer more programmes. The programmes are Bachelor of Education in Primary Education (75 students), Bachelor of Business Administration (80), Bachelor of International Business (80), Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (30), Bachelor of Science in Business Computing and Data Analytics (50), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (20) and Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management (50).
Victoria University has also introduced the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education programme.
“Many current nursery teachers and child-focused workers hold certificate & diplomas in various fields or lack formal training altogether, which can impact their effectiveness in nurturing and educating young children. Our programme aligns with the National Teacher Policy, which mandates a bachelor’s degree as the minimum qualification for teachers at all levels. Graduates will be well-prepared to work in nursery schools, child-focused NGOs, and even start their own early childhood institutions,” the management announced.
