President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inspected ongoing road projects and drainage system restoration in the Central Region as part of his two-day working visit.

The roads and drainage systems were being built to considerably open up the area and alleviate the obstacles that impede the socio-economic development of the area.

He began the exercise by inspecting a 31.2-kilometre asphaltic concrete road in the Assin North District of the Assin Central Municipality that runs from Assin-Fosu to Assin-Praso.

Work on the road began on Tuesday, January 9, 2020, and is expected to be completed in 2023, thanks to a $58 million grant from the Republic of Japan.

The project includes the dualization of around 1,200 meters of road in the Assin-Fosu township into a four-lane roadway.

It would also include a 2,400-meter U-shaped vertical drainage system, as well as a railway underpass reinforced with a concrete box culvert designed to allow water to pass through.

Also, it will feature a five-road crossing drainage system in five sites, as well as a centre median dualized section with bus stops, steps, street lighting, and traffic safety devices, as well as asphaltic concrete pavements.

President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the 15-kilometer Nyankomase-Ahenkro-Assin-Jakai road in Assin Jakai.

The project entails the development of feeder roads connecting Nyankomase-Ahenkro-AssinJakai, Abaasa, and Framase junctions, as well as the Assin Jakai town roads and Jakai-Abenkrom highways.

Top International Engineering Ghana Limited is building the Nyankomase-Assin Jakai road, which is set to open on Tuesday, October 19, 2023.

Residents in the Assin South District will be able to reach farms, as well as schools and healthcare institutions after the roads are built.

Earlier, the President paid separate courtesy visits to the Chiefs of the Assin-Atandansu, Assin-Apimanim, and Effutukwa Traditional Areas.

During the meetings, the President was praised for his excellent leadership skills and innovative approach to managing the country.
