Gotta Have Rock And Roll auction

Five autographs on this copy of “Please Please Me”, bidding start at $75000 in an upcoming auction.

U.S. Rock and roll memorabilia auction house “Gotta Have Rock and Roll” is about to open up their new auction of music related objects, many of which are connected to The Beatles. Like for instance the album depicted above, their debut album “Please Please Me”, signed, not only by all four Beatles, but also by their manager, Brian Epstein. The starting bid is a whopping $75 000.

But there are lots of other interesting objects here. When it comes to records, there are a couple of the so-called “Butcher-cover” edition of the U.S. album “Yesterday and Today”, one with the new paste over cover and one without it, not to mention a U.S. pressed “White album” with the low number of A0000001. One of the Capitol Records excecutives walked away with it at the release party in 1968, had it shrink wrapped and sealed, and it has stayed that way ever since, although the album has changed hands a couple of times.

Ringo’s collarless jacket from his 1963 stage suit is another object, as are a couple of guitars with a history, a Höfner bass guitar signed by Paul McCartney, and lots of other lots. One of the more interesting items is a paper sheet where George Harrison has scribbled down the words to the jazz standard “All of me”, which he then performed with the Beatles at the Cavern Club, according to the lot description. Or how about a paper record of the results of a 1959 drawing exam at the Liverpool Art College, where a certain John Lennon has his grades made public? And he is no. 9 on the list…
