Eternal Life (1 John 5:11-13 Devotional)

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

1 John 5:11-13

You have Jesus. You have eternal life.
You don’t have Jesus. You don’t have eternal life
It’s that simple. There’s no gray area.

A few things about eternal life we need to know

  1. it’s not what we do but who we know. We cannot earn or buy our way to salvation (like more other religions do). Works don’t save us only the name of Jesus Christ saves.
  2. It’s Jesus who gives it, not the saints or pope. There is no other name “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Act 4:12
  3. It’s an open invitation. v.12 says “whoever”. Anyone who accepts Christ, receives eternal life.

It’s that simple! Don’t you believe the most fundamental truth in the bible is often the simplest?

Lastly, you believe you have Jesus right? no doubt.

Does Jesus have you?
Seriously. Does Jesus have you?

We enjoy having Jesus, His salvation, His blessings, His help, and His listening to our prayers….but this is not all there is to be a Christ-follower.

Have you surrendered your life to God?

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.

James 4:7-8
