Dave Dombrowski: Red Sox Still Aren’t Sure How To Replace David Ortiz

There’s a gaping hole in the Boston Red Sox’s lineup heading into 2017 and beyond.

Of course, that hole is due to the retirement of designated hitter David Ortiz, and while others might be able to replicate his numbers (though it’ll be hard), no one can replace his presence.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski caught up with the media Monday during the GM Meetings in Boca Raton, Fla. to break down the team’s thoughts on a replacement for Ortiz.

“And then the other thing which I’m not sure which direction we’re going to go, you know, how do we replace David (Ortiz) in the lineup,” Dombrowski explained. “And I’m not sure if we’re going to do that just internally with a lot of the people we have, or go outside the organization. I think that’s a decision we’re just going to wait and to see what takes place.”

Ortiz’s replacement wasn’t the only topic Dombrowski hit, though, so you can check out what he had to say about the team’s offseason checklist as well as some analysis from Adam Pellerin and WEEI’s Rob Bradford in the video from “NESN Sports Today” above.
