Hello quilters, and welcome to the seventh (!!) annual Designer Mystery Block of the Month Blog Tour! To ring in the new year, we showed you a sneak peek at the 2014 Designer Mystery Block of the Month quilt. We will be celebrating this magical star quilt all month long, hearing from the block designers and giving away some FQS cash. Let’s jump right in!
This year we are all about stars. Star blocks, star designers, and the stars in our lives. We decided to get a little personal and asked each of our 12 designers to name their star block after someone in their life that shines brightly, like a star. Since we can not show you the star blocks, it is a mystery after all, each designer will be sharing a little something about the special star their block is named after.

What struck me about all the quilters and their stars is it is all about family.
Today we visited Sweetwater and her "Star Jordan", named for her neice a very dedicated sister. Then it was on to Laundry Basket Quilts and her "Magical Anna" who's smile brings joy toall who know her. Wih Bonnie and Camille we met "Feisty Phyllis", a grandmother who loves her family beautifully thru her needle. Lastly, we met "Beautiful Joy", the perfect assistant whom I hope is a real person that could not be a more perfect co-worker. What a fun and interesting time it was!

I love this quilt and I think I'm going to have to break down and join this BOM.
Magical Anna is the lovely "magical" daughter of Laundry Basket quilt who inspires her mother cosostently with her ability to bring magic to her world. Feisty Phyllis is the 88 yr old matriarch of a large family that has passed down a love of quilting through her family line. Sweet Jordan is the niece of Sweetwater that has filled her life with sweetmess consistenly through her brothers cancer on through to her early teen years and finally there is "Beautiful Joy" the alter ego of Pieces of my Heart that is quite a character. What I noticed overall was that the four stars that where chosen are all female. Woman being the heart of life 🙂

I especially loved the story about Jordan. It's a difficult time for all when a child has cancer. I cannot fathom what the family goes through. I hear many sad stories about sick children with cancer because my eldest daughter is a pediatrician.

Feisty Phyllis reminded me of my grandmother who made quilts for her 12 children and for her grandchildren…there were over 70 of them!

What fun to inspire us all with the stars in designers' lives, and to think of our own stars. Magical Anna, Feisty Phyllis, Sweet Jordan and Beautiful Joy (chuckle) all had sweet stories, but my favorite was Sweet Jordan. You don't always think of the lives of siblings of cancer survivors-I think Jordan has the love of a great aunt!
Magical Anna, Feisty Phyllis, Sweet Jordan and Beautiful Joy. Such great stories of love and courage and beauty. Each of these is a special star, including Joy the mannequin. Sandy makes her seem so alive. Phyllis is amazing quilting so many quilts by hand and Jordan and her brother must share a special bond. Anna is a real beauty. Such a proud mama she has.

I loved the silliness of the Beautiful Joy post, but was most struck by the love between mothers and daughters in the other posts. I only have sons so that's something I'll never get to experience firsthand.

What a great intro to the Mystery!

What struck me were the block names describing how each person made the designer feel and how expressing these feeling to the ones that bring them so much joy. Sometimes we get caught up in life and forget to say what we feel to those that mean so much to us.
Magical Anna – and I love the dress she made for her daughter! I had to quit sewing for my girls when they started school because they wanted everything to be just like all their friends wore.
Sweet Jordan – The only girl in the family
Feisty Phyllis – has a HUGE family!
Beautiful Joy – what a sense of humor! It took me a few minutes to figure it out, but then I giggled all the way through the rest of the blog post!

Of course what struck me about all the designers was their love of someone special in their daily family life. Even though Ms. Gervias chose her daily work companion, she was like a close personal friend. I loved reading each one!

I think it's interesting that each designer chose a female "star". Something I learned was that Bonnie learned to quilt from her mother. How rewarding it must be for Phyllis to see where that skill has taken her daughter and granddaughter. What a fine legacy.

I enjoyed reading about all of the designers' choices.
Bonnie and Camille's "Feisty Phyllis" reminded me of my own mom. Sweet Jordan from Sweetwater made me think of the ties that bind in our families. Sandy Gervais' Beautiful Joy was a riot. Sometimes I wish I had a silent friend to tell all my secrets to, but Edyta of Laundry Basket Quilts stole my heart with the star named after her daughter. I love that she called the star "Magical Anna." I think of my own daughter, Patricia, as a magical being. She always finds the good in people and reminds me to be grateful for all the beauty in our lies.

I enjoyed the tributes to the 3 humans and the almost human Joy the mannequin. Joy made me laugh.

Magical Anna from Laundry Basket, her smile inspired her mom to sew for her, Fiesty Phyllis,Bonnie of Bonnie and Camille, she hand quilted 10 quilts in 1 year for each of her children, no small feat, I loved the picture of just her hands, such strength from that,Sweet Jordan, Sweetwater,to be touched by a sibling cancer at such a young age an be so inspirantional, made me cry, and Beautiful Joy Sandy Gervis, made me laugh and wish I had my own Joy! a true artist can only dress her like she does, I loved reading that.

I love that Phyllis has made so many quilts even while having so many children, and the wonderful relationship Anna has with her mother. Love that picture of Jordan showing her lamb at 4-H, and I especially love that Joy is a dress form! 🙂
Love the Mystery Quilt!! Like Edyta's Magical-Anna my daughter is an inspiration to me. Bonnie's Mom – Fiesty Phyllis raised 10 children. My mom only raised 7 but she gave us all so many talents and gifts. Sweetwater' Sweet Jordan helped her brother thru cancer…A big accomplishment for both of them. and Sandy's Beautiful Joy reminded me of all the joys in life.
