We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including Deal or No Deal Island, the Oscars, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Grey’s Anatomy!
1 | In the first of S.W.A.T.‘s episodes last Friday, couldn’t the bad guys have just taken the partygoers’ phones? Instead of making them throw them into the pool, which was… rude? And can we assume that the writer of this episode — who distractingly named a character Tony Nelson — is too young to have seen I Dream of Jeannie?
2 | Who at the Oscars got a stern talking-to after Ryan Gosling’s microphone stand was at the wrong height — meaning he had to fix it on the fly — during “I’m Just Ken”? With that performance, has Ryan Gosling earned himself a spot in TVLine’s roundup of the Most Memorable Oscar Moments ever? Why did Arnold Schwarzenegger act like he co-starred with Michael Keaton in a Batman movie when it was George Clooney in Batman & Robin? And are the producers of other awards shows such as the Oscars too proud to simply mimic the respectful, clips-inclusive way that SAG handled the In Memoriam montage this year?
3 | Wasn’t it refreshing that The Way Home‘s Alice and Elliot didn’t miraculously send out a perfect edition of the newspaper, given that they had no layout experience? Doesn’t Alice’s new love interest, Noah, kind of look like her dad as a teen? And how gorgeous was this shot, with the ocean and the windswept hair and the tension? ▼
4 | We appreciate a good self-parody, but was it really the best idea for Lori Loughlin to portray herself as a liar-and-cheat in her Curb Your Enthusiasm guest spot?
5 | On The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, considering they’re keeping their past/connection a secret, was Rick recklessly conspicuous in removing his helmet to smile as “Dana” walked by?
6 | Amid the Photoshop fiasco/speculation about Kate Middleton, do you think the writers of The Crown are rethinking their decision to end the Netflix drama with Season 6?
7 | So You Think You Can Dance fans: Did you have a hunch something was up with Adrianna’s future on the show when we got so much post-audition footage of her?
8 | While watching Bob Hearts Abishola, were you half-expecting someone would accidentally drop Max’s urn and his ashes would go everywhere, à la Two and a Half Men/Charlie Harper?
9 | Was the Amazon product placement on The Neighborhood a bit much?
10 | Anyone else wish The Voice would keep Carson Daly from bugging the contestants’ families during the Blind Auditions?
12 | How many reality shows does Boston Rob have to manipulate before people will stop actively helping him win? And did Claudia get exactly what she deserved on the latest Deal or No Deal Island?
13 | Did anyone else need to Google nattō after watching this week’s Shōgun? (And then regretted doing so?)
14 | Did anyone time how long it took between General Hospital’s Sam finding out Jason is alive and going back to wearing all black?
15 | Were you hoping/expecting Night Court to find a way to work in an old soundbite from Harry Anderson, as Abby tried to “hear” from her late father?
16 | Now that some Password rounds have themes (e.g. “Things That Are Magic”)… is this not just $100,000 Pyramid?
17 | Since no character on The Oval deserves an ounce of happiness, let’s get dark for a second: Who do you hope was caught in that season finale crossfire? And did the finale shootout give you flashbacks to Dynasty’s infamous Moladvian Massacre — as in, no one of consequence will actually be killed?
18 | Are Conners fans really supposed to believe that Crystal, who’s still in touch with Dan, was married to Ed Sr. at the time of his death, but let Dan find out about it via the local paper (back in Season 2)? And that Dan wouldn’t have had any contact with Ed Jr. (or fellow half- and step siblings Lonnie and Angela) for 20-something years? Plus, why would Ed Jr. have been clearing out Dad’s house all those years ago if Crystal was still living there? And are we to assume this is how she was living?? ▼
19 | Did you love Sistas’ two-daddies-one-uterus twist, or has the Tyler Perry drama finally managed to jump the shark?
20 | Where does Maya and Rohan’s driving snafu rank in The Amazing Race’s top all-time gaffes?
21 | 30 Rock fans, are you thrilled to see John Lutz back being weird and pathetic again as Girls5eva‘s new assistant Percy? And do you suspect Dawn’s newfound obsession with The Crown is a direct result of the show moving from Peacock to Netflix?
22 | What are the chances that Young Sheldon‘s George and Mary would have received a check from the IRS for overpaying their taxes? Wouldn’t that mean Sheldon made a mistake while filing on his parents’ behalf?
23 | Was it a small miracle that Disney+ didn’t crash upon the Thursday 9 pm premiere of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour? Or do you think Disney+ quietly releasing it a bit early helped?
24 | Even as ticked as Grey’s Anatomy‘s Catherine was, would she really waste Meredith’s time by flying her from Boston to Seattle just to fuss at her? Was it downright impossible to have any sympathy for Jo and Link after they were taken to task by Sam’s mother (and later, Jo by Mika)? Is Lucas’ refusal to follow orders landing on you like “heroism” or “privilege”? And did Bailey taking over the residency program give you some or all of the feels?
25 | On Station 19, did Amelia violate HIPAA by disclosing Jack’s prognosis to Andy? And for once, how delighted were you that the show went the obvious route and left Carina and Maya making plans to adopt baby Liam?
26 | On SVU, now that Maria — the kidnapped girl Benson rescued in Season 7 — is a cop, she’s gotta show up again later this season, right?
27 | We know Law & Order: Organized Crime’s Stabler is a super dedicated cop, but wasn’t his decision to monitor an op via earpiece during his job-dependent psych eval one of the most boneheaded things he’s ever done?

2) Obviously that’s why Schwarzenegger was so upset that Keaton showed HIS face around these parts because he’s not his Batman. Besides, the DC multiverse has already shown that there are Earths where the faces shift (Earth-96 in Crisis on Infinite Earths) and don’t (the CG Christopher Reeve in The Flash movie).
Re: Law & Order SVU – is it just me or is Olivia becoming a regular at the local bar for a drink after work? Doesn’t she have a son to go home to?
Maybe her son is in an after school club or program? Moms need to relax a bit sometimes.
Didn’t they touch on her drinking a few seasons ago? I feel like there was something where we kept seeing her with wine in her apartment and it got to a point where someone said something and she threw it all out.
She just switched bars, after being in the habit of having a drink with Barba after a case wrapped up (to the point that his last episode was named after last call there).
I’m just more convinced than ever that this introspective 25th-anniversary retrospective feel, combined with a tryout reel of new detectives over the past two seasons, is teeing up for Liv’s eventual retirement, even it doesn’t actually happen this year.
#15 Were we expecting an old soundbite from Harry Anderson? It didn’t even occur to me. I’m glad they didn’t do that. I love Harry and always will, but that would have been in poor taste.
22 – Young Sheldon – Agreed! Unexpected checks from the IRS don’t happen, but they especially don’t happen when Sheldon does your returns. It was absurd. All they needed to do to make it work was make up some other source for the check like an insurance rebate or utility credit….those are the kind of things that could be a surprise check in the mail.
I got an unexpected check from the IRS a few years ago. I had trouble believing it was real and the rep at the IRS would only say “you overpaid your taxes” – which I hadn’t.
A week later, I got a letter explaining that due to a natural disaster in our area during the year (hurricane – though I wasn’t affected), they were waiving and refunding a few months of the underpayment penalty.
So yes, an unexpected check from the IRS really CAN happen.
I actually received a check from the IRS a few years ago due to overpaying my taxes. They contacted me by letter first to let me know to expect it in 4-6 weeks. What amused me was the check arrived two days later.
I stand corrected! Having never had such a lucky experience, I interpreted the Cooper’s surprise as a result of a mistake in filing…which we know Sheldon would never have made. Just a miraculous surprise windfall from the IRS seemed unreal to me! Now I know it CAN happen! Thanks!
I just took the IRS check as a refund, an overpayment of taxes taken throughout the year. Totally normal part of tax season.
That’s exactly what I thought, not that Sheldon made a mistake filing the taxes, but just that their employers took out a little too much in taxes from their paychecks for the previous year.
Possible they lost return check, had a friend do that then got a random check mailed later in year when never cashed
But it came from Jesus! We don’t question gifts from Jesus.
(That’s sarcasm, Sheldon.)
18 and 22–Lazy writing. Surprising for Young Sheldon, not so much for The Conners.
27. Yep. And will he pay? But I did like the speech when he blew the eval off and hightailed it out of there.
Boston Rob should be the first contestant you want out in any game you play with him.
Absolutely. Still, I would take him any day over obnoxious Kim with the potty mouth. From the “I have fallen and can’t get up act” in the first episode, to her nasty attitude she has had ever since has made her extremely unlikable.
As for Claudia, I really do think that she was going to go one last round with the briefcases, but got talked out of it by her fellow contestants. Still, it was her decision.
For sure Kim is a Cheeto Trump Supporter
Agreed. That being said, I am always amused when he pops up in another reality show. I haven’t watched him since he was on the Amazing Race or won Survivor. Can’t remember which one came last. He’s always fun to watch.
He’s probably getting a hefty appearance fee, so I doubt producer’s aren’t going to be guiding contestant conversations away from a BR to keep him around. Claudia was so worked up to protect BR that she sabotaged herself. Someone so familiar with show, I feel producers convinced Claudia to push hard to protect him. If she didn’t, BR would’ve been picking suitcases this episode.
I just assume the producers steer the other contestants away from picking him. I mean he is one of the main draws for the show and letting him go early could be a disaster.
Actually I went early (1st episode) as I can’t stand him or to watch him and his pompous “I’m God’s gift to reality shows” attitude.
20) Whenever I see people getting stuck with bad driving like that my mind goes to Austin Powers.
They Austin Powers it.
20) I may need to re-watch the scenes, but couldn’t Maya and Rohan have just backed up to the intersection? Sometimes those parking bumpers are removable so I’m wondering if they checked with any of the local businesses to try and remove one or two of them. It was painful to watch them get lost and then have the parking problem, but Rohan did an excellent job on the lasso challenge. Too bad it was too little, too late for them to catch up.
Yeah, I was talking to my TV….”Just back out!” I can see why they went in the lane that way – all the cars were parked in the same direction and as they were finally leaving, someone else (a pick-up, I think) was turning in just as they had. All they needed to do was have one of them jump out of the car and go up to the corner to stop people from turning in and back out! I can’t imagine how long it took them to maneuver their car around. They had great attitudes at the end, thouhg, and I hope people will be kind. We all screw up.
You know, like I just screwed up typing the word “though”. :)
Absolutely – there were a few cars coming towards them but I’m sure they’d yield or M & R could have just waited until they were gone but yes absolutely I was definitely yelling “Just back up”.. I don’t know why they didn’t but I chalk it up to general Race panic.
Until they’d gone to far in their turn around of course then I was just enjoying the whole thing while picturing Austin Powers.
I just sat in disbelief watching The Amazing Race; I was dumbfounded as to why they didn’t just reverse the car out of the alley instead of trying to turn it around!
I’d say this driving fiasco puts them in the top 3 worst driver incidents. The top spot will always be held by the team on the race where they tried to do match making. The one guy (Kurt? Think he was a pagent coach) didn’t drive stick, so they abandoned their car and walked or took the bus to the locations. Two would be the team that almost got hit by a tram/bus when they couldn’t manage stick shift. Still don’t know why they didn’t just reverse instead of doing the stupidest car maneuvering ever. Finding people to lift the car up would’ve been so much faster!
We were wondering if the camera crew helped them because, all of a sudden, they were the right direction.
16 PW) Adding categories is probably the one change I don’t like – other “changes” to the basic game were really just variations of elements from previous versions. But they’re allowing way too much in the way of gestures and physical expressions, beyond the usual acceptance of vocal inflections.
It felt like a twist from either Super Password or Password Plus where the contestants had to guess a category after words were guessed. I didn’t mind it as this show is just really fun. Keke Palmer is such a great host.
Jimmy Fallon ruins it for me. Keke is okay but it feels like she’s trying too hard.
1) Because they don’t want to be responsible for the phones and phones can be activated and manipulated remotely?
.
If it’s in the pool, it’s either dead, or useless for surveillance.
4. The joke is that she didn’t just lie and cheat with the college admissions scandal. She does it in all aspects of her life. That’s the comedy of it? Like I don’t understand this question. If you appreciate self parody and SATIRE, why wouldn’t you appreciate what Lori Loughlin did on Curb? It’s like whoosh.
I think the question is about whether it was a good idea for Lori, who’s still quite early in her attempt to recover her career/reputation, to do it? It may have been funny but not necessarily the smartest move she could make at this point.
I can’t stand judgmental hypocrites like you all here, like let Lori move on with her life please.
She’s doing Hallmark & GAF movies, just like she was before the scandal…she’s fine & obviously doing what she wants.
It absolutely was. She’s both loudly acknowledging that what she did was wrong, and making fun of herself. Both of those are things that are pretty much guaranteed to get people back on her side.
Why didn’t they just back up the car. The street wasn’t even that long. One of them could have stood at the top and stopped other cars from coming down if they were worried about it. That was painful to watch.
24. I don’t have any sympathy for Jo and Link. The two should have held accountable for not responding to their page. This situation is so similar to how Derek died
25. Station 19 has its rules. Was Andy his emergency contact? What happened to adoption process? Maya and Carina took the baby as she is a stary cat no paperwork at all.
In response to the Station 19 question, maybe Andy was his health proxy
Given everything that Jack has been through, it wouldn’t be surprising that he would pick her. He doesn’t really have family to make these decisions.
Listen to comment made about how Jack had an updated his emergency contact. I think he still had it as Andy. Remember Jack hates paperwork.
#6: Absolutely not, not just because the creator says he needs some time before he can adapt the events to script, but because even if we were to wring more out of it, it would end with the passing of Her Majesty. Going on beyond that would be tacky.
Since Maya and Rohan said they were fans of the Amazing Race (and something similar to this happened a few seasons ago where the contestants had some locals help them with getting the pillars lowered), I am surprised they didn’t find a local and do something similar. Because there were other vehicles parked on that section of road with no obvious turn around points, clearly there was a way to lower the pillars. But the fact that neither one of them thought to just put the vehicle in reverse before they attempted that multi-point turn, was frustrating to watch.
16 – that wasn’t my password question this week – given how great at the game Joe Manganiello was, can’t they have him be the one there every week instead of Fallon??
Yes please jimmy is extremely annoying
#10 — YES
New version of Password is terrible!!
I can’t watch it, Jimmy Fallon is too unbearable. So much histrionics when a correct answer is given, it’s too much. Allen Ludden is spinning in his grave.
8) It seemed to me that they made it a point not to spill the ashes–deliberately avoiding the cliche. Bravo.
11) What happened to #11?
12) Boston Rob should never get beyond the first elimination in whatever reality competition show he participates in. I am so glad Claudia got what she deserved. She went way too hard to get Kim out and for that matter trying to force Stephanie in this vendetta against Kim. Boston Rob is the villain, each and everyone of them should be targeting him for elimination.
2. With everything else he had to do during the number, and with the tempo changing at that moment, it’s to his credit that Gosling got the mic stand properly adjusted. It was another moment that went right in a charmed performance.
That performance should be the #1 Most Memorable Oscar Moment, in a good way! Ryan Gosling did a fantastic job!!
#19 – I don;t even watch the show, but made me think of a story line on I think Guiding Light years ago when the same thing happened. So not totally impossible in story telling, not even too over the top for Tyler Perry.
Also happened on Days of Our LIves.
Blake and Ross and Rick . Later I think they decided the boys were both Ross’s
#23 – we have been trying to watch Taylor Swift’s movie on Disney + for 4 hours – it won’t login/load. I don’t know how to document it’s down – but it’s down. I think she broke Disney + :)
