We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Traitors, The Bachelor and Saturday Night Live!
1 | Did SNL overestimate how many average Americans had read about the (weirdly sexual) Dune 2 popcorn bucket? Can we all agree that Sarah Sherman’s C.J. Rossitano — the long-lost son that Colin Jost never knew he had! — was the best Weekend Update piece of the season? ▼ And while we “get” that choosing a fired almost-cast member to host is “noisy”-ish (well, for about 27 people), with alllll the talent available post-strikes, that’s who you pick?!
2 | If the Grammys need presenters Mark Ronson and Meryl Streep to explain to the audience the difference between Record of the Year and Album of the Year, is it perhaps time for the Recording Academy to rethink the names of some categories? Should CBS pay whatever he wants to sign Trevor Noah to a multi-year hosting deal? And while we appreciated the concept of having Stevie Wonder duet with the late Tony Bennett, wasn’t “The Best Is Yet to Come” an odd song choice to start the In Memoriam segment?
3 | The Way Home fans, are you getting the sense that the show is setting up a love triangle between Alice, new intern Casey and popular guy Noah?
4 | What was the cringiest part of Curb Your Enthusiasm’s premiere: Larry not letting the Brooke/Brookie thing go, or Michael Fouchay overhearing Larry talking smack?
5 | If Kunal Nayyar isn’t willing to reprise Raj in Max’s in-development Big Bang Theory spinoff, who would you like to see the show revolve around?
6 | How ridiculously blatant was the KFC product placement at The Bachelor‘s pool party? And has anyone ever talked more about not wanting to be involved in drama, and yet started more drama, than Sydney?
7 | TVLine reader/The Irrational viewer Steve asks: “Was I the only one hoping that Alec would start reciting the lyrics to ‘Seasons of Love’ during his voiceover at the end of [this week’s episode], as a nod to portrayer Jesse L. Martin’s character in Rent?”
8 | Did this week’s My Name Is Earl reunion reignite your desire for a wrap-up movie or revival season to tie up loose ends?
9 | After this week’s sleepover-centric Extended Family, are you kinda-sorta hoping the show goes the Everybody Loves Raymond route moving forward and relegates the kids to the background?
10 | On La Brea, how did Maya Schmidt’s military backup manage to sneak up on Gavin & Co. if they had arrived in that noisy Jeep? And where does that raft/giant alligator scene rank among the worst CGI of 2024 so far? (The water wasn’t even moving under the raft at one point!) ▼
11 | Does Criminal Minds: Evolution’s promotion of Ryan-James Hatanaka seem a bit… random? Like, sure, have Tyler Green pop up again, but as a series regular?
12 | Should we probably have guessed that Community: The Movie would take place at a class reunion, and be told from filmmaker Abed’s perspective?
13 | Now that The Traitors has been officially renewed, which reality-TV stars would you like to see enter Alan’s castle next season? Or would you rather see them mix some civilians in with the celebs again, like they did in Season 1? Any other Challenge fans disappointed that CT didn’t choose to save Trishelle from the traitors’ grasp? And for those of you who also watch Big Brother, did you get a chuckle out of Sandra calling her new alliance “The Leftovers”?
14 | If you weren’t already convinced that #PeakTV is dead, this oughta do the trick, right? ▼
15 | Chicago Fire fans, are you already preparing yourself for the no doubt powerful speech that Boden will give as Casey and Brett’s officiant? And do we think anyone from Med or P.D. will attend the wedding?
16 | Given that The Conners began with Roseanne overdosing on pain pills, wasn’t it a bit odd to have Jackie make such a flippant remark about having a previously unknown pill problem back when she was a trucker (circa Roseanne Season 4)? And has it occurred to any other Shameless fans — as it did for TVLine reader “Tams” — that now that Harris is taking over for Jackie at The Lunch Box, that not one, but two former Gallaghers are running restaurants in (or around) Chicago? ▼
17 | Do you wish that just once Abbott Elementary’s surprise cameos weren’t sports-related? Or do they still get you excited?
18 | Now that The Challenge’s Nurys has survived two incredibly difficult eliminations, is her winning the money the only acceptable ending? Is there anyone else you’re hoping becomes the New Champion?
19 | Why did Feud: Capote vs. the Swans build up the reveal of the guest of honor at Truman’s ball to be the biggest (!) thing (!!) ever (!!!) and then not show us the reactions of the swans that the author slighted?
20 | SVU fans: What do you think of Curry as the newest member of Benson’s squad?
21 | Wasn’t it odd that Law & Order: Organized Crime’s Stabler jealously marveled at Joe Jr’s ability to pick up both of the kids at once, given that Stabler himself had done the same thing a few minutes before? And wow, that family dinner at Elliot’s place really took a turn, didn’t it?
Hit the comments with your answers and any TV Qs of your own!
I was wondering…on SVU, would the higher-ups really allow them to have 2 captains in the unit? I didn’t quite follow that line of thinking (although I like that new character). Also, on L&O: Organized Crime, I was confused as to whose kids those were, and thought it was really weird that Elliot was a grandfather and it’s never been mentioned before. What’s the deal with that??
The grandsons appeared on Organized Crime before.
There won’t be two captains. The new one is willing to take a non-captain role because she cares more about fulfilling work (which she believes helping sexual victims would be to her) than she does about rank and pay.
The boys are Maureen’s (Elliott’s oldest daughter) children.
6. If you’ve ever seen Big Brother Australia the KFC thing is much worse and blatant.
13. All Civilians…the UK this season was outstanding.
18. Anyone but Jay. Nurys would be my number one or Berna or Emmanuel close behind. But I’d be real upset if Jay won. He grates my nerves.
Berna and Emmanuel were non-players this entire season. It’s Nurys’ to lose at this point. Jay would be the only other “worthy” choice from a gameplay standpoint.
The Traitors: now that the show has established itself, how about a cast entirely made up of everyday people like the UK version?
One Chicago (Fire): Hard to say if anyone from PD or Med would show up, the only one I can think of who would fit would be Miss Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson)
Abbott Elementary: don’t look a gift cameo in the mouth…
1) I think you are right b/c I don’t exactly live in a cave and I’d not heard about it before the SNL recap and hadn’t looked it up until this post. And I…still don’t get it? It’s like that Halloween gag where you put your hand in a hidden container and there’s peeled grape “eyeballs”, only you know it’s popcorn…so? Nothing about it looks “weirdly sexual” to me in the slightest.
Jane you lived in a cave and were raised by nuns apparently. That popcorn bucket has gone viral on the internet and I’ve seen it everywhere on social media. Since you don’t get the joke, let me explain: it looks like a Flashlight, a sex toy men use inserting their penis into a cavity.
Fleshlight
Jane, it looks like sex toy
On the Abbott Elementary cameos – They had local news legend Jim Gardner in the second episode (of season one), which may not have been significant to anyone outside of Philly, but really delighted me.
That aside, what other famous Philadelphians would make sense to see on the show who would be exciting for the teachers to see, as well as the viewing audience?
Rocky! :-)
I don’t think people who didn’t grow up watching Jim Gardner enjoyed that quite so much. But that was the best cameo!
I love the show, and not sure if it would ruin it, but I kinda don’t want to know who the Traitors are at the beginning. We can still see them meet up but maybe keep their hoods on and voices masked? I don’t know, it seems like it would be more fun trying to guess and be genuinely surprised at banishments.
Love that idea.
I’ve thought about it but a lot of the show would be missing if we that. It wouldn’t feel the same and feel too different
1. Guest Host = Fail
5. I would love with Leonard and Penny. Either a prequel of Leonard’s childhood. Although you would have to a hard reset of Beverly’s antics, and behavior as a mother to make her redeemable. Or one in the aftermath of BBT. Leonard and Penny, raising their child. But since Johnny is on hiatus. Does not seem to be doing much acting at the moment. Maybe a prequel of Penny’s life, growing up on a farm with daddy issues. She supposedly was quite the hellion growing up.
9) Heck, no. They’re two of the very few TV kids who aren’t completely annoying. The daughter in particular seems very multi-faceted.
Traitors Season 3 Bravolebrites
Lisa Barlow, Monica Garica, Sutton, Emily Simpson, Karen Hugher, Luann, Dorinda, Sonja.
More Drag Race Queens: Alyssa Edward’s, Gigi Goode, Trixie Mattel, Jinx Moonsoon, Bianca Del Rio
1: Is there no one else available that week? Isn’t there a celeb somewhere with something to promote that could do it?
2: Yeah, “The Best is Yet to Come” was a really bad choice for an in memoriam segment.
15: Hopefully we’ll see more characters from Med or PD than just Trudy at the wedding!
Disappointed this isn’t on the questions list:
“How great was that scene where Victor Garber’s character walks in right after a discussion of how not enough gay men get cast as leads in shows? Or was that awkward silence a bit too on-the-nose?”
I loved it.
1 SNL) How come NO ONE at the show was smart enough to know that “de-banking” is a real thing, and not “something Donald Trump made up out of nowhere”? Hell, they probably SUPPORT de-banking (because it happens to people they don’t like)!
4 Curb) Why would anyone be so insistent on calling someone “Brookie”? (Yeah, I get it, the whole point of the show is to make Larry look like a jerk.)
5 BBT) I don’t need any more spin-offs. Besides, it has to be done right, or you get AfterMASH, Golden Palace, Three’s a Crowd, and Joey. Not everything is “the next Frasier.”
17. No. TVLine have gone all in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, so what’s the issue with Abbott Elementary showing their appreciation for Philly sports, especially when it ironically involves a different Kelce?
I caught that as well, lol. I wondered if they were being facetious.
15. I think only Trudy. She’s the only cast member from the other shows that we still see every now and then since they pretty much stopped with crossovers. Back in the day it was shown that Brett was friends with Natalie and Burgess, but they haven’t been on for years. I don’t think Casey has many friends on PD/Med, so Trudy would be the only one that makes sense since she’s also Mouche’s +1
9. Honestly, at this point in Extended Family I find the kids more watchable than any of the adults. All of the adult actors are trying way too hard to “be funny” that it just makes the show unfunny for me.
21 – Organized Crime – It’s not that Joe Jr could pick up two kids, it was how familiar the kids were already with their long estranged uncle, who just appeared in their lives, and how the kids were more excited to see him than their own grandfather.
18. Nurys is a comp beast, I loved her determination this season.
20. I like the newest addition to the squad. Welcome, Capt. Curry
21. More surprises from Elliot’s family is what we need and I hope we don’t get anymore surprises like that for Sgt. Bell. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
13. I like CT and I don’t care about Trishelle.
13. CT (who I adore) has the best social game when it comes to these games – he doesn’t care about making friends. He has a strategy to execute…the end. Being ginormous and intimidating also doesn’t hurt. No wonder he is a multiple challenge winner.
1 – Can’t wait to see Shane Gillis on SNL, definitely tuning into that one.
You think!!!!!???. Did anyone from Chicago PD and Med attended Serride and Kidd’s wedding??? Or did anyone from PD and Fire attend Ethan and April’s wedding? If so I don’t remembering seeing Brett at April and Ethan’s wedding?!!! Yes that Stabler’s family dinner took a turn for the worst don’t you think? I don’t like Stabler’s older jerk brother, please get Elliot and Olivia together romantically already what are you waiting for make it happen between them? As for another romance Boddy and Jet I could tell that Bobby was more worried about Jet than the rest of the team. But Bobby’s still married he’s seen still wearing his wedding ring. I know that he wants to help but he’s still grieving about Jamie and going through alot right now plus having an affair with Jet wasn’t good either because he’s married. And why did Stabler get suspended from stopping that kid from shooting him? What was Elliot was supposed to do stand there while that Kidd shoot him.
1) SNL must think this guest hosting choice makes them seem “edgy.” Whatever. I do wonder how much side-eye Bowen Yang will throw his way.
#3) I don’t think they’re setting up a love triangle. It might be more like Casey is Alice’s child from the future and she went back in time to meet Alice. Noah might possibly be her father, so it was like how when Alice went back in time and saw when her parents together. Casey might be doing something similar.
Extended Family should not go past season 1. It’s not funny and the theme song is awful. Hopefully NBC orders a comedy show with comedy in it.
CT was under no obligation to “save” Trishelle. Just because they are from the same show does not make him beholden to her. Trishelle hasn’t been on the main challenge show in years. She’s only been on All Stars and CT wasn’t part of that cast. They aren’t friends in real life and there is no reason for them to be friends for the show.
8. I would love a My Name is Earl revival I loved that show.
