Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is rising again after getting the axe at Paramount+.
The cancelled prequel to the hit musical is now available for digital purchase, Paramount Home Entertainment announced on Monday. (Episodes are available for $2.99 each via Apple’s iTunes Store and Amazon, with the full 10-episode season available for $19.99.) Plus, a DVD release is slated for Nov. 7, with more than 30 minutes of special features included.
This news will come as a relief to fans who worried that the show wouldn’t be available at all after Paramount+ unceremoniously cancelled it after one season in June and then removed it from the streaming service a week later. Series creator Annabel Oakes lamented at the time: “Unless it finds a new home, you will no longer be able to watch it anywhere. The cast, my creative partners and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”
Based on the stage musical that was later adapted in the hit 1978 film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies took place four years earlier and chronicled the founding of Rydell High’s female gang known as the Pink Ladies. Marisa Davila starred, joined by Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara and Jackie Hoffman. It premiered on Paramount+ in April, with its 10-episode freshman season wrapping up in June.
Well, it’s something. At least people can buy it to own and not worrying about if they will ever see it again due to being removed from streaming.
Any word on Star Trek Prodigy season two?
There’s been rumors it’s going to get a home media release and taken out to the VOD market…
And this is EXACTLY why smart people haven’t given up on physical media. If you can’t hold it, you don’t own it.
Hey, Amazon! How about a DVD set of “Mrs. Maisel?”
Exactly. This is why I will always buy Blu-ray/DVD & will always prefer physical media to streaming. I enjoy streaming, but I want to own physical copies of the movies & TV shows I love too.
Yep. If I really like a book I buy it to read on my phone and will buy a hard copy to keep, just in case. Any TV show that I like I buy on Blu Ray. I’m already preordered for Babylon 5 to get its Blu Ray release later this year.
How about a DVD/Blu-ray release of “Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power? Anyhow, glad that this is happening.
So does it have a satisfactory ending or did it end on cliffhangers? I might be interested if I know it’s not too open-ended. Just because I didn’t get to it immediately on streaming doesn’t mean I wasn’t going to soon, so frustrated with these moves.
Sadly it does end on a bit of cliffhanger but most of the first season’s storylines are wrapped up the cliffhanger is just setting up a second season
Agree the “cliffhanger” was more of a stinger/teaser so there is closure for the most part
It is nice to know the show will get a physical media. It’s the best way to be sure a show will last more than it’s streaming existence. Still waiting for the Nevers part 2 to get a proper release ! Studios are doing crap with a huge disrespect to the fans AND the artists nowadays with all the changes regarding the availability of movies, and shows on streaming services ans home media releases.
Bring the show back
