I think coffee houses could save the world from all that is wrong and evil. People sitting down and conversing with others over aromatic cups of espresso and lattes: no one is ever in a rush to leave a coffee house, and I doubt world dominance is ever discussed over biscotti and caramel machiatos. Edmonton needs more coffee houses, certainly more like District Coffee at #101, 10011 – 109 Street, that’s for sure. Look at Seattle or Portland – two cities known for their coffee culture, and two cities that just happen to have a coolness rating of about 95 on a 1 to 10 scale.
So, thank you Nate Box for opening up District Coffee. Thank you for bestowing upon us Edmontonians more of your freakishly tasty baked goods and the soups that are better than mom’s (that’s a first), and for giving us your “sammies” that, like everything else on your menu here (and at Elm Cafe), are made from seasonal, local ingredients of outstanding quality.
Thank you for bringing Phil and Sebastian’s exquisitely roasted coffee beans to this city (hallelujah!), and thank you for keeping things simple. Good food and drink should never be complicated.
