Senator Zubiri donates plasma to PGH after recovering from COVID-19

Zubiri

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) survivor Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri has donated his plasma to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in order to help other COVID-19 patients.

“I was very lucky to have recovered with no complications but that is not the case for many other patients, whose bodies are less prepared to fight this disease. If plasma donations can help them in any way, then I am more than happy to offer mine,” Zubiri said in a statement.

Zubiri, 51-year-old, announced on April 12 that he received his second negative result for COVID-19.

Zubiri is one of the three senators who disclosed information about being infected with COVID-19.

“All of us healthier, perhaps younger people who have been blessed with full recovery from COVID-19—we need to go donate. It’s a fairly simple process, and you’ll be able to help so many people,” Zubiri said.

The PGH is calling all healthy COVID-19 survivors to help other patients in severe conditions recover through the convalescent plasma therapy.

Senator Sonny Angara also donated his plasma last week after recovering from COVID-19.

The other reported senator who got infected with the virus is Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who is now recovering from the disease.

Other patients at St. Luke’s Medical Center in the Bonifacio Global City have also started to show improvement in their conditions after receiving plasma from survivors.
