Navas: I still have the bug

Jesus Navas has declared that he is still ‘bitten by the bug’ of success in Sevilla’s recent past and hopes to emulate it in the Copa del Rey.

Sevilla host Atletico Madrid this Wednesday evening in the Cup’s semi-final second leg, with a 2-1 deficit to overturn in front of their own fans.

For 27-year-old Navas, it is a throwback to six and seven years ago, when with the club the winger picked up two UEFA Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, two Cope del Rey and a Supercopa de Espana.

Despite that trophy cabinet, the winger has made clear that he wants more for Sevilla.

“The importance of tomorrow’s game is special. We want to play in the final and we know it will be very hard to achieve, but also a very beautiful thing,” the Spain international told reporters this week.

“We’ve been fortunate to have played a lot of games like that, but I am still bitten by the bug.

“Being so close to the final does not happen every day.

“I have the same feelings of those great nights at the club not so long ago.”
