The Kano State Police have confirmed the arrest of 18-year-old Salisu Adamu from Danbatta Kano, suspecting him of orchestrating the abduction of his three-year-old cousin, Auwalu Aminu.

The distressing incident was reported at the police command by the victim’s father, Mallam Aminu Garba Danbatta, on December 19, 2023.

Five days after the child’s disappearance, Adamu contacted the family with a hidden number, demanding a ransom of N1 million for the safe release of little Auwalu.

Acting swiftly upon the complaint, Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel, said that the police investigated the case, leading to the arrest of Adamu and the rescue of the child in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.

During interrogation, Adamu confessed to acting alone, citing financial troubles as his motivation. He planned to use the ransom to settle debts exceeding N100,000, accrued from a failed business venture.

Danbatta expressed his shock and disappointment at discovering that a family member was behind the abduction. Despite the betrayal, he thanked the Kano State Police for their swift action in rescuing his son.

CP Gumel assured the public of a thorough investigation, pledging that Adamu would face legal consequences.
