Galactic Geometry

Dream it, build it!

Galactic Geometry

Are you ready to dive into the depths of space to help the little star go back home? In this instructional adventure, you will learn the concepts behind linear geometry to overcome the challenges that will help our friend reunite with his fellow stars.

In this instructional game you will learn the concepts of points, lines, rays, line segments, and angles. A Mouse and headphones are recommended for an improved gaming experience.

Learning Objective Standards (US)

The game covers the following topics, aligned with the US educational standards.

Id Topic Covered
mc_4.G.A.1_1 A Point is an exact position or location on a plane surface. It is important to understand that a point is not a thing, but a place. It is drawn with a dot and named with a letter.
mc_4.G.A.1_10 Construct shapes with acute, obtuse and right angles (Triangles).
mc_4.G.A.1_11 Lines are parallel if they lie in the same plane, and are the same distance apart over their entire length. They never intersect. They are named using two points along each line with the parallel line notation.
mc_4.G.A.1_12 A line is perpendicular to another if it meets or crosses it at right angles (90°). They are named by using the names of the two lines with the perpendicular notation (AB ⊥ DF) X
mc_4.G.A.1_13 Identify all the above in two dimensional shapes.
mc_4.G.A.1_2 A Ray starts at a given point and goes off in a certain direction forever, to infinity. The point where the ray starts is called the endpoint. It is drawn as a line with an arrow head on one end and named using the letters of the endpoint and another letter on the ray.
mc_4.G.A.1_3 A Line is a geometrical object that is straight, infinitely long and infinitely thin. It is drawn with an arrow head on each end. The arrow heads mean that the line goes off to infinity in both directions. You can name a line by using any two points along the line.
mc_4.G.A.1_5 A Line Segment is a part of a line defined by 2 endpoints. It is drawn using two exact points to define the length of the line segment and is named using the letters of the points defining the line segment.
mc_4.G.A.1_6 An angle is the union of two rays, a and b, with the same initial point P named the vertex. The rays can be made to coincide by rotating one to the other about P; this rotation determines the size of the angle between a and b. Angles are named using 3 points where the point in the middle is the vertex.
mc_4.G.A.1_7 Types of angles are Right (exactly 90 degrees), Acute (less than 90 degrees), and Obtuse (greater than 90 degrees).
mc_4.G.A.1_8 When sketching an angle draw a ray, align the protractor with the endpoint of the ray and make a mark at the desired angle length. Use the ruler side of the protractor to sketch a line connecting the endpoint of the first ray and the mark made for the desired angle measurement. Sketch the line to form a vertex. X

Instructions

The game will guide you on each step, assisting you on each stage. There is a hidden star cluster in the space! Use the cartesian plane and points to find it. Explore the concept of the line while speeding up through space and confirm that it is infinite. Use the pulsar portal to transport yourself a step closer to home. Finally, construct random irregular shapes using points and line segments, classify their angle types and recharge the star to continue his journey.
