Police arrest suspects over killing of 3 in Rivers communities

Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects in connection to the killings in Opuoko and Lumene communities in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Sunday morning.

The people of Opuoko and Lumene communities woke up Sunday morning to witness attack by suspected cult boys who invaded the communities and killed three.

It would be recalled that suspected cultists had last week invaded three other communities in Khana and Gokana Local Government Areas and killed 10 persons.

In a press statement issued by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, he noted that the victims were killed by suspected cult boys who invaded the communities early hours of Sunday.

He said “Today August 18, 2019 at about 6:30a.m, information got to us that a group of cult boys invaded two Communities in Khana (Opuoko and Lumene) where they attacked and killed one person in Opuoko and two in Lumene, altogether three persons died.

“The houses of the LGA Chairman and the former Youth Leader came under attack.

The attackers on sighting the Police took to flight but were chased and two of them arrested, while the trail for others is still on”.

Meanwhile, the PPRO disclosed that two suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime. “Two suspects were arrested Damwua Karagbara 33yrs alias Spider and Dinee Prince 23yrs.

“Exhibits recovered from them include: Assorted Phones and Military Camouflage.

So far, calm has returned in both Communities”.

Omoni disclosed that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mustapha Dandaura has ordered Investigation into the incident with a view to ascertaining the remote and immediate causes of the attack and to bring perpetrators to justice.
