According to Sky Sports, Christian Eriksen has agreed in principle to join Manchester United, putting an end to reports linking him to a fairytale return to Tottenham.
This comes as a major U-turn from the Denmark international having made a promise to Daniel Levy in 2017 that he would not join another English club out of respect for Spurs as reported by the Daily Mail. And the Danish appeared to have fulfilled this commitment when Chelsea and Manchester United made a move for him 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Eriksen eventually left Tottenham in 2020 and signed for Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan where he won the Serie A with him. However in the summer of 2020, during the Euros, Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during their opener vs Finland. Thankfully he made a complete recovery after being fitted with an cardioverter defibrillator device.
Euros 2020 was the turning point in his career as soon after, the Italian FA told Eriksen he needs to remove the defibrillator device if he wants to play in the Serie A again. This saw his contract being terminated. After some time away from football, in January 2022 he returned to the Premier League with Brentford on a 6 month contract and had an impactful season for the Bees.
And now with Eriksen having agreed to join the Red Devils on a 3 year deal, he looks set to complete a miraculous return to the top of football. Regardless of how you feel about him going back on his promise to Spurs, you just can’t help but feel happy for him considering all what he has been through over the last couple of years.
If only Brentford were not another English premier league team
He seems to have almost no grit and very little personality. United can have him.
I am glad he is alive today. I will not pretend to be happy for him as far as with which club he plays. He was a Spurs distraction for the better part of 2 seasons with the way he conducted himself professionally, and I am glad Spurs chose not to pursue him again.
Good luck at Ajax er I mean United.
No loss – we should be aiming higher than him. Went missing a lot.
yeh and spurs can get better,, he would be better in the championship
the bigger things never happened till his price dropped then could not hack it,
your joking erikson treated the fans with contempt the way he played or should i say did not play that showed when no teams came for him where was all the offers ??
dead right forgiven but never forgotten
here here
well said Markp, your the only one who sees that about erikson, played like xxxx, against liverpool in the CL final when he just wanted to leave but could not hack it eslewhere, he had no heart in it for spurs the last 18 months at THFC , let him play for who ever, lets hope he don’t get a hard tackle, most players will be scared if anything happens,
Spot on.
Levy treated him with contempt by deciding to pay Dele double what he was on. Eriksen wanted out to get the going rate but Levy wouldn’t do a deal to let him go and he leaves for 15m eventually. Levy created that situation, not Eriksen…
And the tabs…
A lot has happened to him since he made that ‘promise’, things have changed and he has to take what he can get. Not sure why the Italian FA wouldn’t allow him to play with the heart device. He can play in Europe with it, seems daft to me…
Levy facked him over, he can play where he wants surely? It makes sense, the manager is an Ajax man and so was Eriksen before he came to us, he grew up there. They probably know each other well, I wish him luck. Mild mannered and blew hot and cold for us but overall and over a few seasons he contributed a lot.
A good player, but not one that fits Conte’s system. Didn’t play regularly under Conte either at Inter.
Also, didn’t he leave us for ‘bigger things’. Not sure he’ll find that at Utd mind.
I do wish him all the best though, as it’s a blessing just to be back playing.
Stay fit and give up fry ups
exactly
oh please, there are plenty of folk out there that deal with what he went through without a hefty salary. let him rot on their bench. I guess people forget how useless he was during his last two years with spurs!
We don’t want him back because he treated us with contempt for the best part of a year
I’m just pleased he’s still able to play.
Terrible article, absolute bunkum. There was no promise to break. Amateur reporting at it’s very worst. If there is no story then don’t try and invent one.
Exactly. The only people connecting him to Spurs were media clickbait.
We don’t want him back tell the truth if your going to report .
