Darren Bent has tipped Danny Rose to consider a move to the English Championship after he was frozen out of the first team at Tottenham.
The Englishman has been out of the first-team picture since January and he hasn’t been given a squad number for the current season.
Rose and the club hoped that he would secure a move away from the club before the international transfer window closed, but that didn’t happen.
He remains at the club but the domestic transfer window remains open until the 16th and he can join another team below the top flight.
Bent admits that Rose is in a very tough position especially because he will want to be in the England Squad for the next euros.
He claimed that dropping down divisions will not be the best decision, but he will have to decide to do that or stay without football for the whole season.
Asked by Football Insider whether he could see Rose dropping down to the second-tier, Bent said: “He’s far too good of a player to be sitting there waiting for a Championship team to come and get him, he’s far too good for that.
“It happened to me, you get to a point where you need game time maybe the options in the Premier League aren’t there or you don’t fancy it and it doesn’t make sense and you need game time.
“As far as Danny Rose goes, for me he’s one of the very best left backs when he puts it all together.
“The moment he drops down to the Championship, aspirations of getting into the England squad in the summer are gone, completely gone.
“It’s a shame though because I want to see him play football again.
“That’s what he needs to weigh up ‘do I waste a whole season and not play or do I go somewhere in the Championship and go and play week in, week out, play really well and get back to enjoying my football’.
“There’s nothing worse and not enjoyable when you’re at a club you don’t really want to be at and you’re not even on the bench and not playing at all.”
Clearly nobody in Premier League nor a top European league wants him, so he’s obviously not too good for the Championship.
