If you plan to fish the Hopedale/Delacroix marshes, two pieces of equipment that Capt. Ted DeAgano insists anglers should carry with them on their boats is a Cajun Marsh Anchor and long push pole.
The area’s bottom ranges from soft mud to shells. The Cajun Marsh Anchor is heavy and rugged enough to stab into a variety of bottoms, and will hold most watercraft solidly.
Cajun Marsh Anchors can be purchased in a variety of lengths; one size doesn’t necessarily fit all. The size of your watercraft, where you fish most often, and storage on deck should all be considered when choosing which model to purchase.
A push pole can also be stabbed into the mud to hold your boat, but is more effective getting you around and positioned properly in shallow water areas.
DeAgano used both pieces of equipment to position our boat right so it was conducive for all of us to catch fish over the wide channel in Lake Anastasia.
