Sangli | Moneylender arrested in Tasgaon

Sangli/Tasgaon : Policenama online The police have arrested moneylender Jayashree alias Jaya Musale (70) after a complaint by a plaintiff. The local crime cell of the police took action after the complaint. Musale had recovered Rs 25,000 on a loan of Rs 10,000 and was demanding Rs 70,000 as fine from the plaintiff.

Abhijit Mohan Salunkhe had complained that he was being harassed because of moneylenders’s whims and fancies. District police superintendent had issued instructions to officials to carry out a probe and take action.

Salunkhe had taken a loan of Rs 10,000 from Musale in 2019. She had recovered Rs 25,750 till August 2021. She fined him Rs 250 per day for not paying the interest every month. She had demanded Rs 70,000 as fine from him.

Musale had taken the help of Salunkhe’s friend Mohan Kamble to mediate on the issue. Musale had reduced the fine to Rs 40,000 after Kamble’s intervention.

Salunkhe had lodged a complaint after he read in the newspapers that the police were taking strict action against the moneylenders.

A team of police officials arrested Musale and recovered two blank cheques, two diaries having details of transactions, Rs 5,500 and a mobile.

The police team comprised police sub-inspector RF Mirje, SG Chavan, SM Patil, SM Mali, SA Mulik and havildar AS Avtade.

The examination of the diaries has revealed that Musale had given unauthorised loans to about 70 to 80 people. The police have appealed to those who have been fleeced by Musale to approach the police and register a complaint.
