Nicki Minaj Changes Name to Mrs. Petty on Twitter After Applying for Marriage License, So, Uh, Is She Married?

Wedding bells are ringing! Nicki Minaj fueled rumors that she may have already tied the knot with her beau, Kenneth Petty, by changing her name from Ms. Minaj to Mrs. Petty on Twitter. The rapper recently went to the Beverly Hills courthouse and got a marriage license, so if they haven’t exchanged their vows yet — it looks like it won’t be long until they say “I do!”

This change comes shortly after Nicki, 36, revealed that she had a short window of time to get hitched. “We still had to pick it up and I was traveling, by the time I came back, we had to renew it again,” she said while talking about her marriage license on the August 12 episode of her Queen Radio show. “From that time, you have 90 days to get married. That was about a week ago, so now I have about 80 days.”

As far as the upcoming nuptials go, Nicki said that she and Kenneth are planning a smaller ceremony at first, and will have a bigger one down the line when her schedule clears up. “I have to work on my album and I have a lot to focus on that I don’t want to do the big wedding now. We’ll do the big wedding later,” she shared. “I’ll be married before my album comes out, but will have my wedding after the album comes out. Before the 90 days is over, yes, I will be married.”

“I’m very happy about that because my baby makes me so happy,” Nicki added about her beau, who is also featured in the ~sizzling~ new music video for her single “Megatron.”

It’s reported that Nicki will change her real name to Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty once they are legally married. Nicki and Kenneth have been going strong since 2018, but they have faced their fair share of backlash over their romance. Shortly after his identity was revealed, fans learned about his criminal past — which includes a conviction for one count of attempted rape which resulted in him registering as a sex offender and a separate conviction on manslaughter charges. Despite the criticism, the Myx Moscato coowner accepts his past and has even defended him on social media.
