By The Numbers

From the esteemed Larry Correia:
Look at that.
Draw your own conclusions.
My conclusions is that is America telling the democrats that gun control is stupid.

Because that massive jump up recently? That wasn’t people like me. We’ve got ours already. We don’t need to panic buy when prices are high and pickings are slim.

I used to be a gun dealer. I still know a lot of gun dealers around the country. They all say the same thing. Lots of first timers buying. And these aren’t all republicans either.

It’s amazing what happens after months of endless rioting and chaos, with Defund the Police being the response, and having cops literally telling people calling 911 that they’re on their own, good luck.

And to make these stats even more telling, you can put multiple guns on one background check. Two or three guns on one 4473 form is common. I heard of one recently that was for 17. So that 39 million last year? That wasn’t 39 million guns. That was 39 million background checks for an unknown but higher number of guns.

Plus, several states don’t use NICs. (googling just now, the FBI says 13 don’t use NICS at all) They have their own state level system that they use instead. I’m not sure if this FBI stat accounts for those or not, which would jack that number up even higher. These include some of the biggest population states (California, Florida, Illinois, and some that have high per capita ownership rates like Utah and Tennessee). So if those state numbers aren’t folded into this, the numbers are WAY higher.

So basically, Americans of all political persuasions woke up to 2020 being a massive clusterfuck and got slapped in the face that if things go really bad, the state won’t be there to protect them. (or worse, they watched current events unfold, and the idea that the state might actually be the threat became less outlandish to them)

But of course what are the democrats talking about? Gun control. Because gun control is the simplistic emotional default issue when politicians want to obfuscate the fact that they’re fucking up everything else. It’s the government version of “SQUIRREL!”

In 2019 (most current data from PA State Police), PA, using its own system, had 699,937 purchase/transfer background checks and 273,697 License to Carry Firearms (LTCF) Checks.

    TOTAL HANDGUN SALES/TRANSFERS: 421,543
    TOTAL LONG GUN SALES/TRANSFERS: 320,708
    TOTAL FRAMES/RECEIVERS: 23,953
    GRAND TOTAL SALES/TRANSFERS REPORTED: 766,204

For 2020, the LTCF checks were lower, since a lot of the Sheriff’s Department offices were closed for COVID or scheduling appointments 4-6 months out in advance, instead of doing walk-ins. Considering the local stores have been out of stock for firearms for most of 2020 and 2021, I think the numbers will reflect the chart you have.
