Eve, while taking a Break, Presses the Evolution Button

Watching them crawl from the water,
I want these glistening creatures.

I know what they become.
I want the hardness of their thinking,

deftness of their muscles, hum of their metabolism,
swell and beat of their circulatory system.

I want them to be my new Gods.
I want them to reach deep into me

– a simple collection of cells,
a replication of the means of replicating –

I want them to set me in motion
an autonomic nervous system

nose down, seeking a mate
ready to pull rib from flesh.
