Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumours he is interested in bringing Miralem Pjanic to Manchester City this summer.

The Juventus midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to The Etihad in recent months following an impressive two seasons in Italy.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international joined Juve in 2016 and has since scored 15 goals in 91 appearances since his €32 million switch from AS Roma.

Reports from Italy last month suggested City were lining up a phenomenal £89 million move for the highly-rated 28-year-old star, however Guardiola has since dismissed such rumours, insisting he has no interest in bringing the Bosnian to Manchester before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

“Pjanic is a player at Juventus,” said Guardiola when asked about a potential move for Pjanic, “We are not interested in him.”

Pjanic is just one of a number of midfielders who have been linked with a move to City this summer however, with the Sky Blues having missed out on their top two targets, Fred and Jorginho, to Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.

Defensive midfielders Mateo Kovacic and Julian Weigl have also been linked with moves to The Etihad, with first-choice Fernandinho having turned 33-years-old at the back end of last season.

Guardiola however insists his side have plenty of coverage in that area, and are not on the market for a new holding midfield player.

“The scouting department is always looking at players for all positions,” he replied when asked if City were looking to land a defensive midfielder.

“We do not have less players in defensive midfield because we have players who can play in that position.”
