I’ve lost track of how many garments I’ve sewn with the Minerva Exclusive line of viscose challis since their release this summer, but what I CAN tell you is that I’m not going to be done any time soon! Today, I’m excited to show you our matching spooky-season outfits.
As you may be aware, I have an affinity for Halloween and Spooky-Season themed garments. I’ve sewn more than anyone’s fair share, and I had way too much fun putting together an Instagram reel of all my pre-2022 Halloween makes at the beginning of October! I couldn’t let the year go by without adding something new, and this time it was so exciting to find something in a fabric I love! Most of my previous Halloweeny makes have been sewn in quilting cotton – goodness knows I am not above a good quilting cotton garment when the need arises, but I’m so excited about finding this silly spooky print in a viscose challis!!
As I’ve said before, my little girl has a varying range of interests, which makes me so happy! She loves Formula One, she can tell you all about electric cars and loves to point out homes with solar panels, she loves twirly dresses and tiaras and tulle, and her favorite things of all are Jack Skellington and Sally from the Nightmare Before Christmas. So anytime I can combine some of her many loves in her wardrobe, I’m happy to do it. So here we are with our eye-popping skeleton dress and top!!
We felt like perfect little queens of Halloween in our outfits! I took the opportunity to try out a new size and a slight length extension in a tried and true pattern, the Cielo Top. I’ve made two in the past, both in cotton lawn, and I’m really liking how swingy and great it is in this viscose challis! For the little one, I used the Simple Life Pattern Co. Aspen dress, which has some sweet little design features like the V-shaped bodice, keyhole back, and tie detail. At first, I was bummed that I didn’t have any orange ribbon or fabric on hand to use for the tie (and goodness knows I’m too impatient to wait and get some later, when I have time to sew now!), so I felt like I was “settling” with this yellow. However, as the dress came together, I really loved the unexpected pop of yellow! I think it adds even a bit more softness to the overall look!
I’m hoping that more novelty holiday prints are to come with this line of fabrics from Minerva. Clearly, this girl and I will be the first in line to try them out!
