Make no mistake, the music is virtuoso, intricate, twiddly and crazed – but it’s also smooth as silk, tuneful as hell, and cuddly as all giddyup. “Words” – which is, per stage banter, “about words” – is massive, even though it’s dead silky, but the penultimate one is like someone bewitched a circus and made it evil, punk rock, and giddy. Such an inventive band.”
