Yoga Poets for Change

Posted by: yogaactivist on: ● July 5, 2013

On September 28th 2013, thousands of people from around the world will be hosting and putting together demonstrations and events to bring communities together in solidarity through yoga, poetry, meditation, song, dance and other peaceful, creative ways to spread awareness around social change.

Many of us have stories of how yoga has transformed our lives, we may have experienced watching the transformations happen in others lives, especially when working in outreach and underserved communities. There have been profound transformations and social movements around what yoga has created for so many people physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
If you’ve had the pleasure of working with youth, working in any capacity where you’ve seen the affects of positive change through yoga, you’ve been impacted by this work. It has a brilliant beauty within it and a special exchange of the intrinsic connection we all have with one another. This is our social movement. When we find a way to connect our communities together, empower our youth, create self awareness and peacefulness in the places we live everyday, we are happier, more fulfilled and connected.
What an opportunity to be able to create an event that expresses who you are as a community and how yoga has had an impact? What better way than to give a voice to the people who’ve been impacted, giving them a platform to tell their story through self-expression. This is a perfect way to spread awareness of the change you’ve experienced and seen through creative form.
