Where Is Your Value?

Ignore the word's standards.

The other day I was given a compliment and I had a hard time taking it. As I was discussing this with my counselor, I told him I don’t understand why they said that positive thing, because, “I am nobody”. He said, “but you’re not nobody and you connected with them in a way that they find valuable. Look at it as a compliment from God.”

I began to think about that this week and pray about it. I told God I am having a hard time because I feel in my head that I’m being judged constantly, and so when I’m complimented it doesn’t go with my inner thinking. What I realize is my thinking is not always biblical, helpful, or of God. So here are some things I began to place in my mind to replace what the world was filling it with-which was trash.

  1. You are not your past and you are not what happened to you.

This one resonated not just for the abuse that I endured, but how I was unable to handle it for so many years. Years when I was coming to terms with it and trying to end my life. There is still so much shame and judgment there that I have a hard time accepting why I was struggling so much.

  • You are a survivor and God kept you here for a reason.

This one has also been kind of difficult because when I hear of someone taking their life I wonder why God allowed me to live through my suicide attempts. I don’t wish that I had actually died, and I am very grateful He kept me alive, but why me and not them?

  • I am a child of God because I have accepted Jesus and I believe that God sent Him to die for my many sins so that I can spend eternity with Him in heaven.

This means that if you have done this you are royalty. You are a child of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Do you act like it? Do you live like it? I know I do not always.

  • I was created and thought about by God before anyone even thought about me here on earth.

Knit together and created by the God of the universe that created the heavens and the earth. He created me. He created you. Do we live treasuring what He created? Or are we picking apart His creation?

I know I tend to pick apart His creation as I don’t like where I gain weight or how I look, but that is the “world’s standards”. When we use the world standards of beauty and not God’s then we are deceived. In Proverbs 31:30 it says, “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is fleeting but a woman who fears the Lord shall be praised.”

I would rather be valued for following God and allowing His beauty to shine through me as He works, than to be a skinny, model looking girl who is obsessed with looks and not focusing on what I am becoming on the inside.

So, where do you find your value? I know we are all tempted to find our value based on what the world says. Which would include what we’ve done or haven’t done or based on our mistakes or how we look.

But our value is only found in God. We can always belong, we can always be fully known, and have more value than we can ever imagine. All by allowing God to adopt us as we accept God‘s gift of His Son dying for us and become God’s child.

If you have never done that please click here and read about making the most important decision you can ever make. You too, can be a child of the Most High King!

Don’t ever forget you were created by the God of the Universe. You are loved more than you’ll ever understand by Him because He is crazy about you!
